The Eguren family, generation after generation since 1870, have been dedicated to grape growing and to the elaboration and ageing of great wines in one of the most prestigious estates in Rioja. Sierra Cantabria has made its wine under this brand since 1957, from its 90 hectares of vineyards. It has an average age of 35 years and is situated in a unique location, between the River Ebro and the Sierra Cantabria mountain range. This mountain range has given the name to the winery and protects the vineyard from the cold winds from the north, creating a specific microclimate for the cultivation of the vines and therefore providing a differentiated personality to our wines. – Description from iskicm

Sweet and smoky on the nose with some tarry overtones to the dustily balsamic dark almost fudgy fruit tones and top notes of cinnamon. . This smells a bit hot. Round and generous on entry with a little bit of heat noticeable right off the bat. Theres nice acid here buoyed by some soft tannins all supporting the young, slightly lactic core of br... • Bodegas Sierra Cantabria Tempranillo Rioja 2008

Very chalky nose with a lot of black ground pepper. On the palate it is very heavy. The oak really comes through but the tannic structure is quite excellent, hitting all parts of the mouth for a long finish. Very spicy, very syrah-like and would go excellently with red meat. A big wine at an excellent price. Read More

ehh - kind of a waste of time and money. I've been bummed about my latest ventures into the Rioja Region. I would up a few extra dollars for a nice Chilean or Argentinean (I paid $11.99). You'll be happier with the result. I didn't regret buying this wine, I just wouldn't do it again. This one tasted like a sour banana after passing through... Read More
