Bodegas Ramón Bilbao

Bodegas Ramón Bilbao was established in 1924 by wine trader Ramón Bilbao Murga in the Rioja region of Spain. The wines were produced in the traditional aged style of the region and continued to be successful throughout generations of the Bilbao family. In 1972, the winery was sold to corporate owners, but ones who are committed to preserving the integrity and traditions of the wines. Today, the wines are still produced using modern technology with respect for classic styles and characteristics.

  • Bodegas Ramon Bilbao Tempranillo Rioja Rioja Gran Reserva 2005

    Snoothrank:

This is quite fruity and intensely aromatic, with a fair amount of oak. Sweet vanilla, subdued stemminess, red cherry and currant fruit with a peppery top note fill the glass. This is slightly volatile on the nose, but only to the point of boosting the aromatics. Smooth on entry, this shows some rather extracted, dry tannins, but theres fine buf... Read More

  • Ramón Bilbao Single Vineyard Spanien 2007

    Snoothrank:

Quite aggressively oaky on the nose at first sniff though there seems to be some interesting things going on underneath all that oak, as well as a bit of alcoholic heat. Theres definitely an impression of cherry fruit here as well as some baked, toasty notes. This is relatively thick up front and a bit soft in the mouth lending this a broad lus... Read More

  • Ramón Bilbao Single Vineyard Spanien 2007

    Snoothrank:

This shows a nice layered look on the nose with slightly jammy wild strawberry fruit well matched with lightly nutty oak that imparts a nice smoky top note here. In the mouth this combines a touch of extra richness with nice refreshing acids to give this a rare combination of weight and energy. The oak comes up on the mid-palate adding addition... Read More

  • Ramón Bilbao Single Vineyard Spanien 2007

    Snoothrank:

Fresh pungent red fruit aromas, leather and earth. There's some red licorice and a great dose of drying acidity, dark fruit throughout the palate which ends in a bit of chocolate and coffee. Very nice. Read More
