Description 1 of 2

It is located in Oyón (Álava), with a total surface of 110.000 m2, more than 50.000 of which are occupied by buildings. Our vineyards are located in Cenicero (Rioja Alta), close to the Najerilla river (a tributary to the Ebro river), facing Northwest and with a, predominantly, ferric-clayey soil. The rest of the grapes come from selected winegrowers in Rioja Alavesa. All the grapes are fermented in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks. We currently elaborate 23 millions of kg of grapes approximately. – Description from JasminaDragoljevic

Description 2 of 2

El Coto de Rioja is a relatively young winery (we got started in 1970) located in Oyón (Rioja Alavesa) and also part of the Barón de Ley group (www.barondeley.com). El Coto owns some 500 hectares in several areas of Rioja (from Oyón to Cenicero or Monte Yerga) and sells its wines under El Coto, Coto de Imaz and Coto Real brands ("Coto" coming from latin Cautus, a defended plot of land, or estate. In Spain it is very linked to the expression "Coto de Caza", which means hunting lodge and explains the stag on the El Coto labels. Tempranillo, Rioja's most planted and best known grape, remains the spine of our wines (Viura for the White). – Description from tony clifton
