Bodegas Beronia is a winery in Rioja founded in 1973 by a group from the local gastronomic society. It’s named for the warrior tribe of Celtic origin who dwelled in the land in the 3rd century. The winery is committed to producing Rioja in the classic style, using a blend of Tempranillo, Graciano and Mazuelo for reds and Viura for whites, barrel aged in American oak. They also produce a line of barrel aged single varietal wines, and are among the only producers who make a single variety Mazuelo. They are dedicated to the environment and in 2000 they were awarded with certification for their environmental management system.

Bodegas Beronia on Snooth

  • Ah, my first weekend following that wonderful vacation in Oregon.  So what ... ... with a delightful Bodegas Beronia Rioja Gran Reserva 2006Tempranillo wine, but the play had me wanting to leave at the intermission (Sandra would not hear of it).  Two hours and forty-five minutes of my life lost.  Oh well.  We have a ballet performance tonight... • Beronia Viura Rioja Blanco 2012

    Snoothrank:

Very tight on the nose with a hint of green melon and some lovely dried herb and almond shell top notes. Smooth and integrated in the mouth, this delivers a nice array of fresh lemon, slightly peachy and melon flavors on the palate but does lack a bit of complexity. A hint in creaminess and some faint nutty shadings add some detail to the backen... Read More

  • I was wondering what sort of new topic I could start that would pair nicely with my previous posting 'Weekday Wines'; well here it is - Weekend Wines.  Sometimes I just have to stop and take a minute to pat myself on the back for my quick wit but alas, this isn't one of those times.  Anyway, why not talk about wines we enjoy on weekends?  These ... • Bodegas Beronia Gran Reserva 2005

    Snoothrank:

Inky dark plum color. Somewhat volatile nose. Very smooth initial mouth sensation. Not a lot of fruit--some hint of blackberry, somewhat tart, very subdued tannin. This definitely a food wine. I think I'm going to get a slice of cheese to have with this first glass. US$24.99 at WIne Club in Santa Ana. Read More

  • Bodegas Beronia Gran Reserva 2005

    Snoothrank:

Vanilla and cocoa influence by oak. Plum, black fruit, hints of red and some blue fruit on the nose. Also a roasted meat note. Flavors of plum and sweet spice. Nice structure with flavors of mature fruit and chocolate. Long and persistent. On the back, hints of salty charcuterie. Dry wine. Nice. 91 pts. Read More
