It is located in the Luján de Cuyo region, carril Ardoz (off route 60), 300 meters from its intersection with the south access to Mendoza, and at 5 kilometers from Finca Libertad. This old winery belonged to the family of Gladys Alurralde Norton, who was the mother of Federico J. Benegas Lynch. Agustín Alvarez, Governor of the Province of Mendoza in those years, finished the construction in 1901. It is one of the few historic relics that remain from the old Mendoza of the end of the XIXth century. It was made of adobe with a stone underground cave to stow casks and it has spacious areas to store bottles both in summer and in winter, for temperature variations are minimal. – Description from JelaDragoljevic

  • Bodega Benegas Finca Libertad 2008

    Snoothrank:

What a bouquet sandalwood, balsam, and exotic spice but rather a letdown in the mouth, at least for now. The tannins are pleading for more aging, and theyre drowning out some very promising berry flavors from these 85-year-old vines. Give it time. (AV 87, http://argovino.com/?p=867) Read More

  • Bodega Benegas Chardonnay Clara Benegas 2011

    Snoothrank:

You could spend all evening just huffing the mildly smoky hay bouquet from this wonderfully different chardonnay. It's truly addictive, and fortunately a touch of smokiness carries through on the tongue as well, though the apricot and pear flavors become more prominent. For fans of headstrong French whites like Corton-Charlemagne, this is a must... Read More

  • Bodega Benegas Red Blend Don Tiburcio 2009

    Snoothrank:

What a transformation as it opens, the vegetal bouquet of eggplant and squash turns to black cherries and coffee. Then, in the mouth, theres a velvet-smooth feel that makes the wine almost too easy to swallow. Hold it for a moment to appreciate the exotic fruit flavors of carambola and mangosteen, quite a rarity from an Argentine red, before th... Read More

  • Bodega Benegas Red Bordeaux Blend Blend Finca Libertad 2007

    Snoothrank:

A red blend, 34% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Cabernet Franc, 33% Merlot. Pours a dark violet color, with no sedimet. Smells of cassis, dark berries, 'forest floor' and mocha. Starts off with a rich amount of cassis and dark berries such as black and blueberries. In the middle, it has a granular forest floor taste. Finishes off with more dark be... Read More

  • Bodega Benegas Red Blend Don Tiburcio 2008

    Snoothrank:

This was a very good wine, that is complex, with a fair amount of tannin. It has a wet approach and a dry finish. The taste is very cherry and plum forward, with vanilla, nutmeg, and cinnamon undertones. The undertones bring out a complexity and depth to the cherry and plum that otherwise would not be accessible. We highly recommend this wine to... Read More

  • I visited this winery in November 2009 in Mendoza, Argentina. Not only was the wine flavorfull (especially after airing out a bit), the tour of the 100 year old winery was amazing, and the guide, Juliette, was super-friendly, as well. Our wine tasting lasted several hours, and our group loved this winery the most. Thank you, Bengas!
