Bodega Chacra is located in the Rio Negro Valley of northern Patagonia, 620 miles south oi Buenos Aires, 1,240 miles north of Tierra del Fuego, and roughly equidistant west to east from the Andes Mountains and the Atlantic Ocean. The property situation in the arid central Argentine desert is tempered by the confluence of the Neuquen and Lirray Rivers, both of which flow from the Andes and converge in the Rio Negro, which in tum flows into the Atlantic. The Rio Negro Valley itself is a glacial bed 15.5 miles wide stretching 310 miles along the rivers banks at an elevation of 750 feet above sea level. The valley is irrigated by a network of channels excavated in the late 1820s by British colonists who observed the abundant snow melt flowing from the Andes and created an oasis in the middle of the desert. – Description from iskicm

  • Gran Estirpe Clos de Chacra 2004

    Snoothrank:

2004 Gran Estirpe Malbec HE SAYS: We tasted this through the Vines of Mendoza. The grapes for this Malbec come from 100-year-old vines in Lunlunta (Maipú) in the Luján de Cuyo area. It has brilliant purple color and a full mouth feel, soft and warm like a warm brie. This Malbec has merlot and cabernet and was one of the best malbecs I tasted. Th... Read More

  • Bodega Chacra Pinot Noir Río Negro Treinta Y Dos 2007

    Snoothrank:

Black olives and bay leaf flavors on the nose. Rich and dense with chocolate and green pepper notes. There's a hint of truffle and some barnyard, before the wine finishes on barely ripe raspberries and cherry flavors. Lingering tobacco notes. Read More

  • Bodega Chacra Pinot Noir Río Negro Treinta Y Dos 2007

    Snoothrank:

This opens slowly and cautiously with notes of pollen, licorice, and roasted ligonberry fruit. While subtle this is very complex with a faintly sweet edge to the medicinal herb notes and lovely insinuations of cigarette ash and limestone that gives this real finesse on the nose. This is an odd wine, fairly plush at once and then loose and with... Read More

  • Gran Estirpe Clos de Chacra 2004

    Snoothrank:

This is an amazing wine from an amazing winery in the heart of Mendoza, Clos de Chacras. It was a gold medal winner in Argentina and deservedly so. Beautiful color and rich, creamy Malbec. Soft on the palate. This is an example of the Malbecs we are missing out on here in the U.S. because of limited productions and lack of importers for botique... Read More
