Blue Rock Vineyard

We will produce only small quantities of luxurious red wines that express their sense of place. Blue Rock, therefore, will always make wine from grapes grown exclusively on the Estate. We believe that small is beautiful. In our experience, the finest, most individually expressive wines come from small places. We believe that place is paramount, "...a memorable wine is as much a map as a taste. A place where man and plant and planet meet. A kind of liquid geography..." Blue Rock will always come from the blue rocks, pebbles and boulders that make this hillside property so unique and special. – Description from mriskic

  • Blue Rock Alexander Valley Baby Blue 2009

    Snoothrank:

Simple blend that had everything you can want in a red. Raspberry, fruity, juicy peaches and throw in a little spice and smokiness. This was part of a wine tasting showdown. More on the tastings at http://dionyshius.blogspot.com/2012/03/showdown-saturday.html Read More

  • I have just recently encountered the expression "black glass tasting."  It sounds like in a black glass tasting, the participants are using black glasses so that they cannot discern the color of the wine.  I went to Wikipedia and saw this sentence regarding the rationale behind black glass tasting, "A taster's judgment can be prejudiced by knowi... I should stop reading reviews prior to tasting. So, we've got a few poor reviews, a few great reviews and a few very well done reviews. Whom should you believe?Where do you start? Vacqueyras was always one of the most important of the Côtes du Rhône Villages communes, where it traditionally produced good wines based around Grenache blended ... Read More

  • My wife and I are hosting a German dinner in about a month.  She has the easy part, coming up with the menu and delivering on her fine cooking.  Wienerschnitzel and Spatzle are the main course, with probable sides of grean beans and such.  My part is to come up with matching beverages.  The beer is easy.  I'll find something good in a small keg ... • ‘Hey, I’m hearing great things about the Finger Lakes,’ spoken by the collective ‘they.’ Sure, I’d tasted a bottle of Konstantin Frank or two, but embarrassingly had never visited. Summer heat finally drove me to the car, down past the paper trail of Scranton, PA’s ‘The Office,’ north bound to Ithaca, the tail of Cayuga Lake, where all the smart... Read More
