Joe and Vickie would like to raise a glass with you at their Blue Mountain Vineyards. For over 23 years, Blue Mountain has produced a wide range of wines produced from grapes grown in the Lehigh Valley's New Tripoli, PA. In 1986 Joe and Vickie planted the initial vineyard of 5 acres consisting of French Hybrid varietals, such as Chambourcin, Vignoles, and Vidal Blanc. However, through research and experience they had discovered that the Lehigh Valley provides an excellent micro-climate for growing not only French Hybrid grapes, but also European varietals due to well drained soil and our terrain being very much like Europe. Therefore, in 1988 the winery expanded the vineyard another 5 acres, planting Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Pinot Noir, and Chardonnay, and have continued adding this acreage to it's present 50 acres. • Hey everyone, what are some of your favorite 'everyday' or M-F types of wines to accompany a regular dinner?  I personally have enjoyed the Montoya Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa, and I usually pick it up from Total Wines out here in Virginia.  This is one of those fruit-forward cabs that isn't too complex for me to appreciate, and it usually cost... • Hi everyone.  My wife Sandra and I have been into wine for the past few years and that's led to a few trips to Napa Valley and related areas in 2012 and 2013.  We enjoy all wines but reds are our favorites.  We hosted our first wine tasting party last night and it was a fun event - sixteen wine lovers trying different wines in a blind tasting.  ... • After a brief introduction to the the state of Washington this past Monday I reported on my  visits to wineries in Walla Walla on Tuesday. Today I am reporting on visits both in Prosser, which lies roughly between Walla Walla and Seattle in the Yakima Valley as well as to wineries located basically within Seattle’s metropolitan footprint. As I’v... Read More

I spent a week traveling the region recently and was franklyunsure of how these articles would play out. • The truth is that I don’t drink very much Cabernet these days, opting instead for other wines that fit my lifestyle a bit better. It’s not that I don’t like Cabernet. In fact I can honestly say that I still love Cabernet, though that love is mostly satisfied by older examples from California and some newer releases from places like South Africa. ... • It's not often that I have a plan. Well, a detailed plan at least.. Some sort of a plan not being a requirement for those in this business. But a detailed plan, and over-arching theme for a visit to wine country can certainly come in handy.  This month’s, or rather last month’s theme was, surprisingly enough: Zinfandel. I say surprisingly becaus... Read More

  • We're heading back to (my favorite wine region) Russian River the first weekend in October and are looking for advice on what to do and what to expect.  We've been to RRV several times but only during the off season.  Is there anything special we should do at this time of year, and conversely, is there anything we should avoid? • So we have some interest in having a West Coast meet-up (or you can call it a throw-down) for Pinot.  Here's my opening proposal:  We'll do it very close to the Oakland Airport, to save those who are traveling in from out of town (like Emark and JonDerry) from having extra travel if they want to fly.  This would give LuchaVino a chance to attend... • I ran up to Napa for a few days to get away and taste some wines from places I'd never been (most of them).  I went during BottleRock Napa, but alas, didn't partake in an y of those festivities.  Some great finds, so I have listed/linked any of the wines I rated over 90 points, should anyone have interest, or their own thoughts on the wines. Wit...
