Bluemetal Vineyard aims to produce wines with fresh fruit characters and complexity, wines that are different and sometimes a little controversial! The wines are made exclusively from the 26 acre vineyard on Hurdle Ridge. It is the highest vineyard in the Southern Highlands at 790 metres above sea level and this combined with rich, free draining soils, makes it an excellent vineyard site. The vineyard lies over a cap of basalt rock, known in Australia as blue metal – hence our name. The seven varieties planted were chosen to suit the long ripening season which allows the full fruit flavours of the wines to develop. The white varieties are Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris and Viognier. The reds are Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Sangiovese. – Description from iskicm

  • A few days ago I participated in a tasting/pairing event that featured white wines. One of the wines was Chablis, and, while discussing this one, the facilitator stated that it was fermented in steel and had never seen oak.  I asked if that was common for the region and he responded that it was absolutely the case, and was so for all white wines... • I mentioned this a while ago, but didn't get around to the post.  We stayed from September to end of December at a condominium in a complex built in the '70s. They've renovated and rebuilt since then (there were several major lawsuits for construction defects--built on fill!), but the architecture and the vibe is still very of that period. Our u... • Well... Recently bought a house which now has to be rennovated. After a few glases of Rioja I decided that the house needs a wine cellar. Obviously the best place would be underground, only problem is the house does not have a basement. A new bottle of Rioja was opened and the decission was made, one has to dig a whole in the kitchen.Kitchen bef... Read More

  • One enters the courtyard at Burlotto through a small door in a big metal gate. Once that gate closes you could easily be stepping decades back in time, if one can ignore the incessant ringing of the phone that is.
