  • Blackwood Lane Merlot 2010

    Snoothrank:

Another winner (what's new?) for Blackwood Lane. This Merlot has a nose of red fruit, cherry wood ( such as found in a love chest) which is a marker of Carlos' wines. The palate is more cherry wood and tart red berry, with chocolate in abundance. The finish is long and rich. Better than many Bordeaux "right bank" offerings. 90-91 points. Read More

  • Blackwood Lane Cabernet Franc 2010

    Snoothrank:

There's nothing like a beautiful summer day in the Fraser Valley (did I mention that it was February) - but it's better with Blackwood Lane Cabernet Franc. The 2010 is deep cherry red in colour and redolent of crushed blackberry, menthol and a hint of cardamom. Entry is very pleasing - with a creamy blackberry-cherry core and a touch of spice.... • Blackwood Lane Pinot Noir 2009

    Snoothrank:

Blackwood Lane produces wines of quality in Southwestern British Columbia and this PN is no exception; there is a nose typical of the region with wet earth, strawberry preserve, celery, cucumber and a hint of sugar. On the palate, we receive a melange of strawberry, a touch of white pepper, black tea and white cream. This hybrid new/old world ... Read More

  • Blackwood Lane the Rebel 2009

    Snoothrank:

Blackwood Lane of Langley BC offers a Syrah as "The Rebel" (there is a story) for 2009 and has a deep red colour and nose of damson fruit and red licorice whips. The entry is smooth, slightly alcoholic, but otherwise balanced. Tastes like a Syrah-based Southern CdR-Villages. Very nice. 88 points Read More

  • Blackwood Lane Vineyards & Winery Cabernet Franc 2007

    Snoothrank:

Although this is not the first time I have tasted the 2007, it is the first time I have had time to savour it. Not quite as rich as the 2008, it is nevertheless an elegant CF with a depth of a California wine yet the bracing acidity of a Bourgueil (Loire). It has the earth and grassy herbs of a northern expression of this variety, but is very, ... Read More

  • Blackwood Lane Vineyards & Winery Cabernet Franc 2008

    Snoothrank:

Though stamped with the unique signature of Carlos Lee, this wine has all the usual trademarks of the variety with that softer, more herbal nose; on the palate the wine has good complexity and elegance with light red fruit and excellent pH balance - somewhat between a Cali "over-the-top" interpretation (say Sonoma) and a fine Cab Franc dominated... • Blackwood Lane Riesling 2009

    Snoothrank:

This is another of Carlos Lee's rather unique interpretations of an established vinifera varietal - in this case, the Riesling grape. The nose is muted, with a tropical honey bouquet that has a touch of aniseed. Some petrol elements are happening as well, with more licorice and aniseed on the palate. Although compared by Carlos to Alsatian Cru... Read More

  • Blackwood Lane Viognier 2010

    Snoothrank:

Visiting Carlos at the seat of his wine-making operations in the Fraser Valley a few kilometres from the US border with Washington State is a treat; we tasted many special products including this one: a Viognier with a character all of its (seductive) own: muted Condrieu-style nose and viscosity with a sweet, honey-infused, tropical fruit flavou... • Went here with a group of women a week ago and found this winery to have unfriendly staff and terrible wine. $10 per tasting was a little outrageous, especially given the fact that there are no grapes grown at this vineyard. Lots of other wineries in the region that have so much more to offer.

  • Blackwood Lane Chardonnay 2010

    Snoothrank:

This is another beautiful and bountiful expression of British Columbia land, climate and genius. Meshing well with my own bias for a Chablis-style orientation in Canada, this wine has a clean, slightly unripe apple scent with a touch of vanilla, and the entry is firm, mildly acidic and clean with a medium finish. The only weakness of this wine... Read More

  • My personal favorite when considering the value as well as the overall quality is the Merlot. It shares some characteristics with the Reference product with both being a little jammier than the Alliance. The Alliance carrying a little more old world Meritage sort of style. Charles Herrold has done an excellent job with the wines and continues to...

  • Blackwood Lane Winery is a must to visit when touring the wineries of the Fraser Valley both the 2006 Merlot and the 2006 Reference are 5 Star or 10 out of 10 rating. The hospitality at the winery is fantastic!

  • In 2009, Blackwood Lane’s 2006 Alliance Bordeaux-style red was declared winner of Icon Wines' ‘Wine of the Year’ award. Produced from Southern-grown Okanagan grapes, the vintage has been described as a “phenomenal wine full of complexity and flavor.” For a full review of the product line, visit renowned author and wine critic John Schreiner’s b...
