Bella on Snooth

  • Ruby Hill Bella Gemma 2010

    Snoothrank:

This dark, sweet, fortified Port-like wine is a classic; rich, highly extracted and long finish. Very nice plum and spice. Heavy tannin but is balanced by the RS. Lots of sediment for such a young wine--odd. Not quite as nice as their 2009. A bit awkward. My rating -- 87. Read More

  • Well, I tried the one with the peas and morels in a cream sauce, substituted organic bella mushrooms since morels aren't in season right now, and it turned out very well, served it over some buccatini with a bottle of 2011 Erath Oregon Pinot Noir and it was a very pleasant meal! Read More

  • I got the e-mail today with the plethora of salmon recipes, and the one for poached salmon with peas and morels in heavy cream just sounded outstanding, so I think I'll try it tomorrow for a last hurrah of copper river season.  Have any of you tried any of the recipes? Read More

  • OT has the serious local info--you'll probably pass him on the roads at ... about.  Also Talty and Bella--Bella has the coolest caves.  Ridge has a tasting room on Lytton Springs and, although I am allergic to paying to taste, it's a chance to have Montebello by the glass if it's otherwise outside of your price range. Have a great time--as if ... • So I am sneaking away to Sonoma for a few days.  I have spent tons of time up in RRV and Sebastopol, and I think I want to revisit the lower valley this time- Kenwood, Glen Ellen...  I would love recommendations for wineries, hotels, motels, vac. rentals, and restaurants.  Sonoma proper would be ok to stay, as is close to those areas.  Plan on h... Sorelle Sangiovese Troppo Bella 13.9% $23 Deeply aromatic on the nose with notes of tobacco, stemmy roses, and lots of earthiness coming together with reasonable complexity. • Sorelle Sangiovese Troppo Bella 2010

    Snoothrank:

Deeply aromatic on the nose with notes of tobacco, stemmy roses, and lots of earthiness coming together with reasonable complexity. This is pretty soft on entry, broad, transparent, and a bit simple in the mouth but with attractive leafy edges to the sour wild cherry fruit. Tannins that are a little rustic drive the nervous, fresh finish. 87pts Read More

  • The Zinner party was last night, but preparations began a week or two ago when I realized I had accumulated some Zins that needed consuming.  I had been lured by a cellar sale on BPWine that featured a ton of Turley wines from different vineyards at really attractive prices.  By the time I pulled the trigger, the best values appeared to be a 200...
