Founded in 1994 by Tom and Steve Beckmen, Beckmen Vineyards is a family-run, estate winery located in Santa Barbara County's Santa Ynez Valley. Since its founding, Beckmen Vineyards has emerged as one of North America's premier producers of Rhone varietal wines, while also helping to establish Santa Barbara County as one of California's most highly regarded winegrowing regions. Eager to return to his farming roots, and convinced of the Santa Ynez Valley's vast potential to produce world-class wines, Tom Beckmen began searching for promising vineyard property in the early '90s. He found what he was looking for on a 40-acre parcel of land with an existing small winery. There he established Beckmen Vineyards. Working together, Tom and Steve began revitalizing the site. Convinced that the vineyard had been planted incorrectly, they painstakingly removed the 16 original acres of vines, and replanted the vineyard with carefully selected varietals, clones and rootstocks. • Thanks, Greg.  Very interesting.  Like I said, for $16 I'm not going to lose sleep if the bottle I bought is not great.  However, based on your comments I will try to drop by their facility and check them out.  I am really surprised that the Cab gets respect.  I am a Napa Valley bigot when it comes to California Cab.  Read More

  • That particular wine is relatively weak IMHO. However, it's their lowest-priced bottle as far as I know. They are a very good producer; one that you should know better. They do a credible Cab but their main thrust is Rhone grapes and they do them as well as anyone in California. A very good winery IMO and their prices are completely reasonable. ... Read More

  • Does anybody know anything about this winery?I was in a store today and picked up a bottle of their Cuvee Le Bec--a red Rhone blend.  For some reason or other, I have seen the Backmen name a few times recently, and, now, I have a bottle to try.  Clearly, this is not a wine that has attracted a lot of attention.  I don't hear about anybody claimi... • Beckmen Cuvee le Bec Santa Ynez Valley 2011

An excellent GSM blend with a touch of Counoise to complete the spectrum of wild blackberry, blueberry and other dark fruit characteristics. Clean, elegant and very easy to enjoy. An absolute gem at this price. Makes you smile every time you unscrew the cap. Read More

  • Beckmen Vineyards Syrah Santa Ynez Valley Block Six Purisima Mountain Vineyard 2006

Very dark in color. The nose was of dark fruits and hints of black pepper. Some veggie notes. Tannins still present but fairly mild. A very nice medium finish. Nice example of Syrah. Read More

  • Beckmen Vineyards Grenache Rose 2012

Dark and fairly orange toned for a rose. This smells fruity, like jujubes and plums, and candied orange with some strawberry fruity. Broad and soft on entry, this may lack just a hair of brightness but makes up for it with loads of fresh, dry fruit flavors. The acid is certain adequate to keep this lively in the mouth and this does develop some ... Read More

  • Beckmen Vineyards Santa Ynez Valley Cuvee le Bec 2010

Spicy and herbal on the nose with hints of sandalwood and dried herbs along with a hint of vanilla over raspberry, blueberry and blackberry fruit. Very frutti del bosco here. Bright and lively on entry and very much in the style of a top Cots du Rhone. This has no fat to obscure the very pretty strawberry, herb and floral notes on entry, deepeni... Read More
