Located in the Texas Hill Country between Fredericksburg and Stonewall, Becker Vineyards was established in 1992 by Richard and Bunny Becker. The vineyard was planted on a site of native Mustang grapes much prized for winemaking by German neighbors and their ancestors. Also planted on site is a three acre lavender field reminiscent of the wine country of Provence, France. The 46 acres of French Vinifera vines generate 8 different available varietals, including Syrah, Petite Syrah, Sauvignon Blanc, Malbec, Petite Verdot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot. The vines are planted in a mixture of deep sand and Precambrian granitic soils at 1,500 feet above sea level. The vines are watered with water welled from limestone formations 300 feet beneath the surface. A drip irrigation system is employed throughout the vineyard. Becker Vineyard’s first harvest was in 1995. Most vintages are aged in new French oak, others in new American oak, and stored in the largest underground wine cellar in Texas Read more »

  • That Summerhill is an excellent example of Ehrenfelser - if memory serves, it is just a touch off-dry... like most from that grape-crossing. During the 1980's and early 1990's there was not that much good Riesling around in BC (Gehringer Bros. being a somewhat rare exception at the time), but there was Ehrenfelser - a  left-over from an assessme... • Lately I've been interested in learning more about CA regions other than Napa. So I've been tasting quite a bit from producers that don't find their way out east, where it's often easier to get wine from Europe than from the US, at least in NYC.First, I have to give a huge shout out to Bryan Harrington. He's gone around the state and found reall... Read More

  • I spent my first afternoon in Pfalz strolling through the quaint village of Deidesheim. It is classic Germany – story book houses, window boxes overflowing with colorful flowers, and a welcoming fountain surrounded by cafes in the town square. • This is actually one of my favorite wineries in Texas. Their line of wines is expansive with traditional Bordeaux varieties, a number of Rhone wines, as well as a sprinkling of varietals from all over the world. Check them out! Source: What's Worth Drinking: Post #7: Texas Merlot (

  • Becker Vineyards is a local treat it Texas. I have found the wines to be very hit or miss, often with more misses than hits. I enjoy supporting the local winegrower, so I try the Becker wines often. I enjoy their Viognier. I hope Becker can refine their Malbec, because I will love a strong Malbec not only from America, but Texas!
