Jim and Debbie Van Haun founded Cedar View Winery in 1999 with an emphasis on producing rare, eclectic, hard-to-find varietals. The winery's estate “flagship” grape, Alicante Bouschet, is made as a very popular award-winning red wine as well as a very rare Rosé. Other rare varietals produced by Cedar View Winery include a Tinta Cao and Touriga, two full bodied red wines with Portuguese ancestry that pair well with steaks and roasts. Our Old Vine Grenache comes from the George Saroyan Vineyard, planted in 1957, and is a multi-award winner. Cedar View Winery also produces one of Spain’s most popular rare varietals, a Tempranillo, along with small, hand-crafted lots of Pinot Noir, Pinot Grigio, Viognier, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Zinfandel. – Description from milana

  • Last week I began my summer time look at Zinfandel by focusing on Mendocino and lake counties, two regions that have limited presence in the Zin lovers mind. Today I'm taking a different tact and focusing instead on lodi, a veritable Zin lovers paradise. Why you ask?Well simply put it's a region that not only has a great climate for Zinfandel, wi... • Hi guys:I was at a local wine and liquor store today; I buy quite a bit of stuff from them but don't really know any of the staff. It was quite warm and I was out running errands. I decided to stop by and pick up a few bottles of inexpensive wine (sub $15) that I can use in part for cooking.I guess maybe my hand was a little sweaty or something ... Read More

  • Hi everyone.  My wife Sandra and I have been into wine for the past few years and that's led to a few trips to Napa Valley and related areas in 2012 and 2013.  We enjoy all wines but reds are our favorites.  We hosted our first wine tasting party last night and it was a fun event - sixteen wine lovers trying different wines in a blind tasting.  ... • Back in July, I proposed a West Coast Pinot Noir throwdown on the Snooth forums.  In what was a pot-luck twist on one of Gregory dal Piaz’s “Drink My Wine” events, I suggested that any Snooth forum posters could congregate in my neck of the woods—Oakland, California—and bring a bottle of their favorite Pinot Noir from whatever region they think ...
