Jim and Debbie Van Haun founded Cedar View Winery in 1999 with an emphasis on producing rare, eclectic, hard-to-find varietals. The winery's estate “flagship” grape, Alicante Bouschet, is made as a very popular award-winning red wine as well as a very rare Rosé. Other rare varietals produced by Cedar View Winery include a Tinta Cao and Touriga, two full bodied red wines with Portuguese ancestry that pair well with steaks and roasts. Our Old Vine Grenache comes from the George Saroyan Vineyard, planted in 1957, and is a multi-award winner. Cedar View Winery also produces one of Spain’s most popular rare varietals, a Tempranillo, along with small, hand-crafted lots of Pinot Noir, Pinot Grigio, Viognier, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Zinfandel. – Description from milana

  • There’s nothing quite like having wine friends. After all, our mutual topic of interest is a social lubricant. But there’s so much more to it, as Snooth’s recent blogger trip will attest. Earlier this month we had the opportunity to explore one of the country’s oldest and up-and-coming wine regions: Lodi, California. It still amazes me that a si... Read More

  • Okay, I get to take two quick trips this month.  First, we go to San Luis Obispo, Pismo Beach, and Cambria (more or less in that order).  We have one night in Pismo Beach that we can go out for dinner, and we can do a very limited amount of wine tasting because we will have the kids.  So, where do we have dinner in Pismo?  If we eat out in Cambr... • Thought I'd start a topic to see what "different" wines people are drinking. I've been on a hunt to find wines made from lesser known grapes or from unusual areas. Here's one of each. This is a rose made from Cinsault, not too unusual right? Well this is from the Bekaa Valley in Lebanon. Either they don't make very good wine in Lebanon or this bo... Read More

  • Mine started about six years ago when I met my wife.  We played volleyball in an adult league against each other and hit it off at the bar after.  We never drank wine together (only lots of beer) and the subject never came up.  We had been "dating" a few weeks when I invited her over to make us dinner.  She said she would bring a bottle of wine.... • Last week I began my summer time look at Zinfandel by focusing on Mendocino and lake counties, two regions that have limited presence in the Zin lovers mind. Today I'm taking a different tact and focusing instead on lodi, a veritable Zin lovers paradise. Why you ask?Well simply put it's a region that not only has a great climate for Zinfandel, wi... • Hi guys:I was at a local wine and liquor store today; I buy quite a bit of stuff from them but don't really know any of the staff. It was quite warm and I was out running errands. • Hi everyone.  My wife Sandra and I have been into wine for the past few years and that's led to a few trips to Napa Valley and related areas in 2012 and 2013.  We enjoy all wines but reds are our favorites.  We hosted our first wine tasting party last night and it was a fun event - sixteen wine lovers trying different wines in a blind tasting.  ...
