With passion and patience, Fiona and Hal Barnett created this vineyard and winery in 1983 with the intent of producing small amounts of hand crafted Cabernet Sauvignon wines from their estate. Since the first vintage of Barnett Vineyards, Spring Mountain has proven to deserve it's own AVA and become known as a unique microclimate, producing exceptional Cabernet Sauvignons and Merlots. The vineyards are located at the top of Spring Mountain, at elevation 2,000ft, and planted on steep terraces that follow the contour of the land. In some places, the grade averages in excess of 35%. Mountainside farming is very challenging. The vines must struggle to reach nutrients and water in the soil and, as a result, yield only one to two tons per acre. The elements of sun, temperature, and well-drained porous soils give an advantageous water stress to the vines and contribute to the depth, richness and character of the wines. Grapes are harvested by hand; vineyard row by row, as optimum ripeness and maturity is reached Read more »

  • Hmmm....we haven't tried paying with dinars yet.  You know what's ... ... buy anything on the Barnett Vineyards website right now.  It's messed up and you get error messages when trying to purchase a wine.  Not that I wanted to buy more mind you, but I was trying to find our current shipment in their inventory and it does not seem to be avail... • I picked up our spring shipment of six Barnett Vineyards cabs this afternoon.  All six are 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon, but three of the six are special - they are Cyrus Ryan Vineyard Estate Bottled wines in which they only produced 9 barrels.  The other three are from the Spring Mountain District, in which they produced 56 barrels.  I can't wait to... • Due to popular demand (don't ask where that demand came from or you'll spoil my fun), we appear to need some new wine discussion topics.  This topic was only relevant to Thursday as a test case but was subsequently expanded to cover the weekend too.  What ever you bring up in this topic should either occur on a Thursday - Sunday, or it could be ... • The kitty belongs to Barnett Vineyards.  This cool kitty knows he rules the grounds but he does so with a soft paw as opposed to an iron fist.  All the Duckhorn wines that we've tried have been very tasty - Migration, Paradux, etc.  Everyone should try their wines sometime, but I understand that with OT nearby and his expertise, you should go wi... • I love the Ridge labels.  They are the most informative labels around.  GregT made reference to Ridge "single vineyard" bottliings and "Zin-based" bottlings.  Very few of the Ridge bottlings will have "Zinfandel" prominently displayed on the front label.  In the United States in order for a wine to be identified by a grape variety, it must conta... • Hey everyone, what are some of your favorite 'everyday' or M-F types of wines to accompany a regular dinner?  I personally have enjoyed the Montoya Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa, and I usually pick it up from Total Wines out here in Virginia.  This is one of those fruit-forward cabs that isn't too complex for me to appreciate, and it usually cost... • Hi everyone.  My wife Sandra and I have been into wine for the past few years and that's led to a few trips to Napa Valley and related areas in 2012 and 2013.  We enjoy all wines but reds are our favorites.  We hosted our first wine tasting party last night and it was a fun event - sixteen wine lovers trying different wines in a blind tasting.  ...
