  • We've been visiting this winery since 1983; beautiful area next to Santa Cruz. The tasting room has changed quite a bit over the years. It used to be a cozy, private escape, like a secret garden balcony perched over the Soquel Creek. Now has a large patio area with seating. Many fruit wines and variety of light, sweet whites as well as class...

  • Below you will find my general opinions on SCM wineries I have visited recently.  I have rated most wines I have tasted in "my wines" so you can look up specific wines by winery.   But what I really want to know is where I have missed.  I am going this weekend and want to hit Burrell school for sure...   I am afraid of Rhys and Ridge because of ... • Bargetto Regan Vineyard Pinot Grigio 2010

Dry and dusty on the nose with lots of apple core and mineral aromas topped with a little sage and sorrel herbiness. Dry, small-scaled and precise on entry, this is a nicely scaled wine with richness and good acidity lending excellent balance. The flavors run towards Asian pear and heirloom apples here, with a little cashew thrown in for good me... Read More

  • Muscat Canelli 2010

Oh Ya! Muscato wine is my all-time favorite. This Canelli is a nice one, not as sweet as some others. More on the citrus note like orange muscat, but not as bitter. Nice bouquet. Delightful with fish & roast chicken. Read More

  • Bargetto Monterey County Gewurztraminer 2010

Very nice Gewurz. One of our favorites. They used to make a late harvest Gewurz to die for, but no longer. Pity. Still this is good one to take home. Crisp green apple notes with citrus finish, clean, refreshing. Read More

  • Bargetto Nelson Vineyard Syrah 2008

This is decidedly bacony and peppery on the nose, not super intense but with a nice underlay of black cherry/ blackberry fruit and some nicely integrated sweetly smoky and slightly nutty oak notes. A bit compact on entry though this has rather vibrant acids and super fine if abundant tannins wrapped around the fruit. The flavors are fairly fres... Read More

  • Outside of the pricey boutique wineries, who do you think consistently produces good wine year-after-year and represents good value? I'm thinking of the "larger" more established wine makers, who try and bring their A-game across the spectrum of their varietals. To me the sign of a good wine maker and overall brand is someone who you can trust ev...
