The newest winery and tasting room in Amador County is the countrified Bantam Cellars, located right along Shenandoah Road in a recently built tin-roofed barn. They currently make four estate-grown wines, with a bent toward Italian-style read more...reds.

The tasting room is a replica of a 100-year-old Plymouth barn found just down the road. Inside is a spacious room paneled with Douglas-fir and cedar. The tasting island is made of rich walnut wood, and a crystal chandelier hangs overhead.

According to co-owner Jonna Cobb, “It is my goal to bring Amador back to its wine roots with Bantam Cellars -- good country living, chickens in the yard, good friends, good food, fabulous wine and great times with lots of relaxed and friendly hospitality.” They certainly have a good time here making their “Coop D’Ville” blend, Primitivo, Zinfandel and Viognier wines.

Winemaker and co-owner Garth Cobb brings with him experience from Karly Winery, where he and his family produce Rhone varietals along with Amador Zinfandel. Informal tours are available.    (hide)

Dry, with light clay and herbal aromas adorned with a hint of stone fruits. It's clean and dry with a hint of spice, a bit of a bitterness that is green, like pine nettles, and pleasant.
