Ballentine Vineyards focuses on red varietals; Zinfandel, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Syrah. Each vineyard supports our belief that it is vital to grow only those varieties that are best suited to particular aspects of the land; soil, exposure and climate. The grapes used for our wines are all 100% estate grown on 100 acres, from three distinct vineyards in the Napa Valley. Van Ballentine personally manages each vineyard. – Description from Alejandro

  • Ballentine Vineyards Old Vines Zinfandel 2009

    Snoothrank:

Their 2009 is not quite as voluptuous as their 2006. It is characterized by dusty fruit, tannin, chocolate but is fairly simple. Slight over ripe notes. Slight cinnamon. My rating-- 88. Read More

  • Ballentine Vineyards Chenin Blanc Napa Valley Pocai Vineyard 2009

    Snoothrank:

Quince, green tea and smoky lanolin greet the nose along with some wet wool notes. This is surprisingly light in the mouth, with superb, vibrant acidity supporting relatively simple lime, quince and a touch of pear fruit with smoky, light mineral oil aromatic notes in the mouth. The finish is a touch short but snappy, with a nice return of lime ... Read More

  • Zinfandel, it’s no secret that I’ve carried on a long and intimate relationship with you. There is so much you have to offer. Sometimes you're a bit rough and tumble, edgy, even dangerous, while other times you’re coy or playful. But you’re always there for me, with joyous fruit, classic bramble notes and structure, allowing for early consumptio... Read More

  • Ballentine Zinfandel Old Vine Pocai Vineyard Napa Valley 2009

    Snoothrank:

Slight wood and clay soil tones greet the nose along with a nice crushed black fruit aroma and some nuanced French oak notes. This starts off nice and tight on the palate, turning a bit soft, with an easy-drinking texture but still focused, with black plum and blackcurrant fruit. This continues to open up, turning fruitier on the back end with a... Read More

  • Ballentine Zinfandel Block 11 Napa Valley 2007

    Snoothrank:

Meaty, dark and toasty on the nose with a nice base of old wood topped with rich red fruit compote. Nicely focused in the mouth, with fine, slightly grapey blackberry fruit on the palate in a restrained, elegant style. Theres a refreshing balance of sweetness and briar here that leads to a clean finish, showing off fresh black cherry fruit toppe... Read More

  • Ballentine Zinfandel Reserve Block 9 Napa Valley 2009

    Snoothrank:

Bigger, deep and fairly rich on the nose, which shows lovely wild blackberry fruit with cedary oak spice, and a little vanilla and blueberry pie spice. In the mouth, this is a touch on the sweeter side, with still nice fruit, blackberry peppered with hints of coffee beans, vanilla, and boysenberry, all topped with a streak of mocha on the modera... • Ballentine Vineyards Zinfandel Napa Valley Estate Grown 2009

    Snoothrank:

A mostly medium-bodied, balanced and smooth wine with ripe blueberry notes and tiny bit of a spicy finish. Also tasted cherry on this fruit forward wine. Has some oak to it. Definitely dry with older tannins. Enjoyed with pulled beef barbecue. Read More
