n the 1990’s Aveleda decided to pass through another challenge: to produce a red wine from another appellation. That project was the origin of the Charamba wine, coming from the DOC Douro Valley. It was immediately a great success because it was named several times as a “best value for money” wine in the press and among Consumers. Related to this was the inauguration of bigger wine storage facilities, investments in Marketing and in all the processes of winemaking. This was also the time of the acquisition of Quinta da Aguieira, in the DOC Bairrada, where the Aveleda winemaking team started collaborating with the famous oenologist from Bordeaux – Professor Denis Dubourdieu and his team, in order to produce some of Portugal’s most impressive wines. Nowadays, Aveleda is considered to be one of the three major wineries in Portugal, selling its wines to over 90 countries in the world and the largest Vinho Verde producer.
