Italy View map

Lying along the road that winds its way up from Castiglione Falletto to Monforte, the Attilio Ghisolfi winery is surrounded by the vineyards of Bussia, one of the finest crus in the Barolo wine-growing area. The company has been run by Gianmarco since 1988, when he began bottling the wines that had been produced on the farm for three generations and had always been sold previously in bulk. The traditional local varieties (Nebbiolo, Barbera, Freisa) are grown on around 7 hectares (17 acres) of vineyards, alongside another which is quite unusual for this area: Pinot Noir. The most prestigious label is Barolo Bricco Visette, though since the 2000 vintage it has been joined - in the very best years only - by the winery’s real showpiece, Barolo Riserva Fantini. – Description from JasminaDragoljevic

  • Attilio Ghisolfi Barbera d'Alba Maggiora 2007

    Snoothrank:

Plum backed up with some oak and plenty of volatility. With air, chocolate and tobacco emerge to add some complexity. A bit lean and tough on entry though there is plenty of fruit here. Nice, black grapey fruit touched with a little spice and something lactic going on in the mouth. Finishes short with good acidity, though slightly acidic, and so... Read More

  • Attilio Ghisolfi Nebbiolo Barolo Bricco Visette 1999

    Snoothrank:

The nose was unexpectedly advanced, showing damp soil with cherry, herbs, floral rose and minerals. On the palate, it was soft with ripe cherry and hints of iron like minerals. Stern tannins showed through on the finish with notes of cherry and cedar staying through the close. Read More

  • Ghisolfi Pinay 2005

    Snoothrank:

A great value and nice example of newer blends coming out of Piedmonte. Believe its mostly Pinot Noir w/ Barbera. Ghisolfi is a great producer with value offerings in Barolo, Barbera, etc. Not carried in many places in my experience. I know if 1 shop in Manhattan that consistently carries this producer and product: Garnet. Nice red fruit yo... Read More

  • Attilio Ghisolfi Nebbiolo Barolo Bricco Visette 2004

    Snoothrank:

Apon opening this had a nice array of tarry, herbal and clay tones that recalled calamine lotion with a touch of lurking roasted strawberry. In the mouth it offered up ripe tannins and balanced acidity with relatively simple cherry fruit tones and a touch of earthy spiciness on the follow through. With air this gained a touch of gamy leatherines... Read More

  • We love both of these wines but they can be harder to find. For father's day I would like to find a couple of bottles of each. I would like to stay under $30. I did a snooth search and so many came up, I thought some of you could maybe help narrow it down. Any suggestions? Read More
