Ash Hollow is a boutique winery operation which focuses on producing ultra-premium quality wines. A sense of place is pervasive – the entire team focuses on producing wines that showcase the vineyards and the extraordinary terroir of Eastern Washington. Winemaking is minimalist and traditional with a new world attitude. The winemaking and viticulture teams strive to "make the wine in the vineyard," working toward growing grapes that will develop wines with little intervention. A group of colleagues enjoying the fruits of their labor - and sharing it with old friends and new. That certain something that can’t be defned by logic or science - that sense of place that makes Ash Hollow wines so special. – Description from Kursulla

  • To welcome fall, and without a doubt the season has arrived, like clockwork, the moment our Labor Day weekend had wrapped up, I have always had a bit of a tradition of opening some Barbaresco. While my heart may belong to Barolo, the somewhat more elegant and more approachable wines of Barbaresco are perfect for times when you are looking for so... Read More

  • Zinfandel, it’s no secret that I’ve carried on a long and intimate relationship with you. There is so much you have to offer. Sometimes you're a bit rough and tumble, edgy, even dangerous, while other times you’re coy or playful. But you’re always there for me, with joyous fruit, classic bramble notes and structure, allowing for early consumptio... Read More

  • Spottswoode. It’s a name, particularly when paired with Cabernet Sauvignon, that tends to elicit a uniformly impressed reaction from wine lovers across a broad spectrum of palate preferences. "Why is that?" one is tempted to ask. Are the wines simply that appealing? Is there something inherently there that makes these true Napa classics? Or is t... Read More

  • Last year I was fortunate to attend a seminar here in New York City entitled, “The Multiple Personalities of Oregon Pinot Noir.” It was in part responsible for my essay on vintage variation, which I think is worth a read.
