Arrowood Vineyards and Winery was founded by Richard and Alis Arrowood in 1986. Just two years later, they had made their first wine. Arrowood’s success was not random - Richard was the first winemaker of the iconic Chateau St. Jean, before he dedicated himself completely to Arrowood in April 1990.

Located just outside the town of Glen Ellen, in Sonoma Valley, Arrowood prides itself on its connection to Sonoma County. While it sources its grapes from a number of different regions, all of them are located within Sonoma County. It buys grapes from Sonoma Valley, the Russian River, Alexander Valley, Dry Creek, Knights Valley, and Carneros.

Thanks to her hard work and background in chemistry, Heidi von der Mehden, winemaker at Arrowood, has played an integral role in the success of many wineries. Ever since she started working as a lab tech for Kenwood Vineyards in 2000, her life has been tied to grapes.

  • Freemark Abbey was actually quite good back in the late '60s, all through the '70s and into the '80s. They were even included in the 1976 Judgment of Paris where they took 10th place, amongst some very heavyweight competition. Will post those results, fully expecting the formatting to go awry... ;-( For the reds, then the whites:RankGradeWineVin... Read More

  • Arrowood Chardonnay 2011

Clear, lemon-gold, medium intensity. On the nose the wine is clean, with medium intensity aromas of orange and tangerine, white flowers, creme brûlée and some evidence of lees contact. Clearly barrel fermented in oak. The wine is dry, with medium acid, med+ body. The wine has undergone malolactic fermentation, has evidence of lees contact. ... Read More

As you might know this year’s event differed from those in years past as the event was broken down into additional components.  The trade and media portion of the Experience is now a discreet tasting, and the grand tasting has been broken out into sections, that took place on the g... • So I am sneaking away to Sonoma for a few days.  I have spent tons of time up in RRV and Sebastopol, and I think I want to revisit the lower valley this time- Kenwood, Glen Ellen...  I would love recommendations for wineries, hotels, motels, vac. rentals, and restaurants.  Sonoma proper would be ok to stay, as is close to those areas.  Plan on h... • Who else is still drinking the 1996 California cabs?  I had yet another bottle on Memorial Day and loved it.  Altamura '96 was lovely. Previously I've loved the 1996 BV GdLatour.  As we know, 1997 amazed people but has largely faded early. Two questions:1. Which of the 2000s vintages will age like the 96s have done so gracefully?2. Which 1996s i... Read More

  • Carnivores and grillers, a few reasons to love Syrah: it’s a fantastic wine for pairing with any roasted meats, especially red meats like beef and lamb, as well as wild game. It is often peppery and sometimes smoky, with a roasted fruit and/or roasted meat flavor profile that makes it a fine accompaniment to anything barbecued or grilled (even, ... Read More

Untypical chardonnay. The nose almost as delightful as the actual taste. Toasty and oak undertones, drier than usual for a chardonnay, gala apple, vanilla, and some creaminess without being "buttery." Tasted tonight at 4 Flights Wine Boutique and was well received by everyone tasting. Read More
