Arabella is a modern wine facility located in a historic property in the Robertson region of South Africa that has been in the De Wet family since the 1860s. The De Wets trace back to the original cellar master of the Dutch East India Company, Jacobus De Wet, and Arabella proudly claims its legacy via his illegitimate son. The grapes are grown at south-facing slopes, with soil moisture carefully monitored and irrigated when necessary. The main varieties grown at the property are Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Merlot and Chardonnay. Arabella produces a range of white, red and rosé wines.

Another recent Naked Wines selection. Clear Silver Gold in the glass. Opens with a lemon vanilla with a bit of underripe Cherry; then a buttery yeast, then more vanilla oak and lemon. Nice bit of acid with lemon and lemon grass, slate and mineral. As it sits still remains crisp, but loses some of the lemon and takes on more vanilla oak. Nicely b... Read More

  • Arabella Shiraz Western Cape South Africa 2014

    Snoothrank:

A Naked Wines selection - the 2013 was recommended by 'the Reverse Wine Snob'Very, very easy drinking, an everyday, dependable, but not terribly complex Shiraz. Opens with notes and scents of ripe plum and cherry and quickly goes to oak/chocolate/mocha/leather - seemed almost a big Pinot Noir rather than a Shiraz, but there is enough spice and p... This was a miss the first time. Nice enough but not what I expected. Perhaps I did not get the right temp or let it breathe properly. I will try again later and if I change my mind I will revise.2nd bottle tried and did not even finish it. Just a miss. Read More
