The estate has been in the Antonelli family since 1881. Although originally from Spoleto, the family transferred to Rome five generations ago. Francesco Antonelli, a lawyer, bought and transformed the property. Stefano Antonelli, also a lawyer, and Marianna Antonelli maintained it with loving care. Giacomo Antonelli, yet another lawyer, and Antonio Antonelli, an engineer, enlarged the property and invested in viticulture. Filippo Antonelli has been at the helm of the estate since 1986. He divides his time between Montefalco and Rome where he manages another family wine estate, Castello di Torre in Pietra. Born in Rome in 1960, he graduated from Perugia University with a degree in agriculture. He was president of the Consorzio Tutela Vini Montefalco from 1996 to 2006. – Description from dvoristanac

Produced from 70% Sangiovese, 15% Sagrantino and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot Moderately aromatic with notes of pressed flowers, dried cherry and hints of toast, smoke and mineral. In the mouth this has rich dried cherry fruit in a hard, crisp style thats a touch short at this point. The finish reveals spicy and floral hints but this is qu... Read More

  • Antonelli Montefalco Rosso Riserva 1999

In the beginning there is only oak, prunes, and leather. the early palate consists of spices and white pepper. Despite that, this wine contains a smooth finish that is normally reserved to the most velvet merlots. This does not however diminish the aged complexity of the wine. The oak is strong but not overpowering and is reminiscent of aged ... Read More

Not overly sweet, but good for beginning wine drinkers, like myself :) It was really great with braised pork and pasta. One of the best pairings I've ever experienced. Read More

  • Antonelli Sagrantino di Montefalco 2003

Had it with dinner at Del Posto in NYC. Recommended by the sommelier. It's neat to see it here for $42, since at the restaurant it was one of the cheapest wines on the list at $80. It was very, very good, though. Read More
