We're very excited to offer you our 2006 wines. It's sometimes hard for us to believe that this vintage is already our third release at Anthill Farms. As always, we have many people to thank, but we are particularly happy to be working read more...with the same group of superb growers from year to year. These relationships are the single most important factor in producing the style of wine for which we strive. The growers' constant attention to raising the finest grapes possible is what makes our winery work.

Ever since the three of us met while working at Williams Selyem in 2003 we have come to a simple, yet critical, understanding: the connection between the site, the farmer, and the winemaker is the all-important path to expressive and compelling wine. In many ways, what Anthill Farms represents is a series of cooperatives: between the vintners and the growers, between three co-winemakers, and between us and you.

This idea leads us to a question many ask: what are each of our roles at the winery? The matter can be somewhat difficult to explain since we take a relatively fluid, dynamic approach with all of us trading hats as needed. While Anthony focuses on the vineyards, Dave on the winery, and Web on the back office, each of us is "the winemaker" and any one of us can be found pruning in the vineyard, doing punchdowns, or working the bottling line.

By and large, our process does not change from year to year: we believe in a type of winemaking minimalism that promotes site and vintage expression above all else, though we also constantly work to make wines that, in the end, taste good. This goal translates to vigilance in the vineyard, intensive farming for minimal ecological impact, gentle handling from vineyard to bottle, a measured hand with oak, and, most importantly, leaving the wine alone as much as possible.

"For example, a couple years ago I was at a big Pinot Noir walkaround tasting with lots of big names. I came across a brand I’d never heard of, Anthill Farms. The wines were so compelling, especially coming from a total unknown, that it put them on my radar. It didn’t hurt that the owners were a bunch of young guys who had a great back story. As I ponder my career as a wine critic, I’m struck by how often this happens — you stumble across some new little brand that blows you away."
