Andrew Will Winery was started in 1989 and is owned by Chris Camarda. The winery was launched out of a love for wine that Chris had developed while working in the restaurant trade for almost 20 years. Named after the Camardas’ son Will and nephew Andrew, Andrew Will has been a major contributor to the success and notoriety in recent years of Washington State wines. Initially, the winery consisted of 900 square feet of rented industrial space in Seattle. In the early days, everything was done by hand from shoveling grapes into crushers, to labeling and delivering the wine. In 1994, the Camardas moved to Vashon Island, a short ferry ride from Seattle, where they built the present winery. They now have two buildings which allow them to make about 4300 cases of wine a year. They have also purchased land in Eastern Washington and planted 36 acres in grapes. Andrew Will makes Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Sangiovese. As Chris Camarda has developed his style of winemaking over the years Read more »

I have just recently encountered the expression "black glass tasting." It sounds like in a black glass tasting, the participants are using black glasses so that they cannot discern the color of the wine. I went to Wikipedia and saw this sentence regarding the rationale behind black glass tasting, "A taster's judgment can be prejudiced by knowi... Read More

I spend most of my days writing about wine, so it may be surprising that I sometimes read about wine in my spare time. Like any wine lover I am always hungry for more knowledge, not to mention expert guidance, on wines and vintages. Though the truth is that while the number of people writing about wines is growing every day, the media that showc... Read More

The cork vs. screwcap as a wine bottle closure argument/discussion has been done more than once on these pages. My point here is to encourage some discussion around the merits (or lack-there-of) of arguments in favor of cork as an ethical choice, similar to choosing organic wines, etc.The journalof the Ecological Society Of America published th... I am considering buying a wine from the year of my son's birth (2007) and aging it to open with him when his first child is born, so say 25-30 years if all goes according to plan. (A gamble with any child, I know).I only have learned a modest amount about wine appreciation, enough to know I'd make a mistake selecting just any bottle and expectin... Read More

Had one of those once in a lifetime days betting the ponies today. With the winnings, i'm probably going to be budgeting up to $1500.00 on some more expensive wines I haven't been able to afford in the $80-$200 range. Any suggestions? I favor a right-bank bordeaux style for reds but also enjoy a medium bodied cabernet style, along with rhone ... Read More

"-- The 2007 ----- is 100% Tinto Fino aged for 24 months in French and American barriques. A glass-coating opaque purple color, it emits a super-fragrant bouquet of pain grille, pencil lead, Asian spices, black cherry, and blackberry. Dense and opulent on the palate, this loaded effort is succulent, pure, and exceptionally lengthy. It will evolv... Read More
