Andrew Rich produces wine in the state-of-the-art Carlton Winemakers Studio, the nation's first "green" cooperative winemaking facility. The studio, which is a partnership between Eric Hamacher, his wife, Luisa Ponzi of Ponzi Vineyards, and Ned and Kirsten Lumpkin of Lumpkin Construction in Seattle and Lazy River Vineyard in Yamhill, promises to be an archetype for Oregon's wine industry . The facility is home to several respected Oregon wine producers including: Hamacher Wines, Andrew Rich Wines, Bryce Vineyard, Domaine Meriwether, Dominio, Penner-Ash Wine Cellars and Soter Vineyard. Each winery will operate independently, with separate cellars and staff, but all will benefit economically from sharing state-of-the-art equipment in the gravity-driven building designed to use natural light, passive solar heat and recycled materials. The Studio has registered with the USGBC (United States Green Building Council) for certification when completed, and will be the first LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Read more »

  • Hello,My name is Kim and I just happened across this site tonight and was quite impressed with it.  To be as brief as possible, I love wine and would love to learn as much as possible about it, particularly so that I can better contribute to my Facebook page I just started called "For The Love Of Wine."  I impulsively decided to start it last ni... • Jennifer, as you know there are quite a few wineries in Oregon and it's neighboring state Washington. Wish I would have checked your post prior to you visiting. If you ever come back again, while in McMinnville just on the skirts of town is a very large aviation building open to the public and it houses Howard Hughes Spruce Goose the mega sized ... • This is no doubt too late but I would have to say that visiting wineries int he Willamette Valley is one of the least dangerous things one can do in the world of wine. Yes some wineries produce wines that may not be to your style but almost everyone is producing some pretty great wine and they are almost to a person thrilled to taste with you. I... Read More

  • Hi! I've been quite busy with travel for work so I've been off the radar a bit. I unexpectedly had a few days free so I took a last minute trip to Portland for a few days - I'm there now. Tomorrow we were planning on driving out of town to do some wine tasting, etc....probably McMinnville. I was too busy and tired to really make any plans for th... Read More

  • Hi everyone, I have recently started to discover the great wines of Oregon and Washington, especially falling in love with the rich, dark reds (Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Merlot). However, I am fairly new to the world of wine, and would like some recommendations, education and whatever else has to do with the wines of the North West. I hope... Read More

  • Andrew Rich Roussanne Columbia Valley 2006

    Snoothrank:

This is a really unique wine...really rich, elegant, and aromatic. Bright straw color and medium to full bodied. A distinctive nose of white peaches and wildflowers and maybe some almond. Soft and rich on the palate with more white peach and wildflower notes with some vanilla, honey/marzipan.. gently supported by acidity. Fairly long finish. Read More

  • Carnivores and grillers, a few reasons to love Syrah: it’s a fantastic wine for pairing with any roasted meats, especially red meats like beef and lamb, as well as wild game. It is often peppery and sometimes smoky, with a roasted fruit and/or roasted meat flavor profile that makes it a fine accompaniment to anything barbecued or grilled (even, ... Read More

  • I was going to put this in the Whatcha Drinking Tonight thread. But since there was some Syrah talk going on I thought I'd start a new thread on Cool Climate Syrah.Tonight I'm visiting a wine I haven't had in since May and wanted to see how it is progressing. It comes from high up atop the Yorkville Highlands in the Anderson Valley  which is in ... Read More

  • Cabernet Sauvignon is often blended. This changes - and some would say completes - its distinctive profile. To showcase this iconic black grape, I wanted to pluck out varietal Cabernets. However, I most wanted to spotlight wines from Washington and some of my favorites there are Cabernet-dominated blends. So, I’ve chosen some of both. While no lo... Read More
