In the Rapel Valley, at the foothills of the Andes Mountains, school friends Felipe Ibáñez and Jorge Gutiérrez founded Viña Anakena. Their project was to be exceptional and nothing should be left to chance. Convinced that to achieve distinction they must offer the highest quality, they scoured the celebrated wine-producing regions of the world, soaking up the culture and the most up-to-date winery techniques, and found out what was expected of the wines from this remote but well-endowed land. Thus in 1999 the first vineyards were planted in Alto Cachapoal; today Viña Anakena has 155 planted hectares in the Cachapoal Valley, 128 planted hectares in Leyda —San Antonio Valley—, 70 planted hectares in Cerro Ninquén —Colchagua Valley—, and 60 hectares in Las Cabras, Rapel Valley. Anakena wines are exported to more than 40 countries around the world and are constantly praised by the most demanding experts.

  • Anakena Sauvignon Blanc Rapel Valley 2008

I think this is a great every day SB. It's much crispier than California SBs and closer in style to New Zeland ones. Oak notes are barely noticeable and don't cover up the grapefruit and grassy characteristics of this grape. If you are looking for a softer, more pear notes with stronger oak notes this wine is not for you. Read More

  • Anakena Riesling Cachapoal Valley Single Vineyard 2007

This is one of the best white blend that I have tasted in a while. It has a rich nose that reflects the grape varietals. The mouth is crisp and well balanced. It was paired with Pistachio Almond Chocolate ,but I could have enjoyed it more with spicy fried goat. Look forward to my review on how that goes. Read More

  • Anakena Pinot Noir Bio Bio 2007

The other night I was discussing with someone how long it has been since I had a wine that I actually really disliked (not counting crappy BTG wines in various crappy restaurants). I really wanted to like this wine. Single vineyard. Pinot Noir. Chile (well, that was the wildcard I guess). The nose on this wine was very odd. A fairly strong ocean/... Read More
