Amicus is the venture of three friends: Amanda Vanstone, Robert Hill and Walter Clappis, well known Winemaker and bon vivant. Amicus Winery is based in McLaren Vale, one of South Australia's leading wine districts. Grapes for the label are sourced vineyards in McLaren Vale and the Langhorne Creek wine growing district. Amicus Wines have been favourably reviewed in the Australian press with the making of the 2002 Reserve Shiraz being compared to that of the great Max Schubert... creator of Grange Hermitage. The emphasis of Amicus is the making of small parcels of exclusive, superb wines. Good wines made in the vineyard Amicus employs traditional methods of winemaking, through the use of open fermentation and a basket press. Fermentation is usually completed in small oak barrels. This method is adopted to increase the overall complexity and integration of oak through the wine.
