Our name is a combination of the Latin root words "am" (love) and "vi" (life). It represents our simple pursuits: love, life and wine (or as we like to say: amor - vita - vinum). We pronounce it "ahh muh vee." You can be certain you are saying it the way we do if it rhymes with "momma me." Located in the Walla Walla Valley, Amavi Cellars crafts elegant, approachable wines, focusing on estate-vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. We also make small amounts of Sémillon, Rosé, and dessert wines that are typically available only in the tasting room. We are proud to be small and family owned. Two generations are active in management of the winery and the vineyards. Winemaker Jean-François Pellet is a third-generation winemaker and grape grower. Quality, hospitality and sustainability are our underlying values. We would love for you to visit us in our tasting room. Critics often say our wines have a phenomenally good quality-to price-ratio. • Amavi Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon 2009

Nose rich of stewed berry, black olive, licorice and plum. Also aromas of fresh bread dough. Flavors of dark plum, berry fruit, baking spice, dark chocolate and coffee. Dark and smoky. Nice, but open 30 minutes or more ahead of drinking. 89 pts.11/17/12 Read More

  • Amavi Walla Walla Syrah 2008

Nose of pencil lead, ripe berries and violets. Some light soil notes and bramble. Rich flavors of raspberry, blueberry and subtle graphite and slate minerals. It's deep, layered and rich. Roasty quality adds to it nicely. 91 pts.8/12/11 at Winery Read More

  • Amavi Cabernet Sauvignon Walla Walla Valley 2008

Earth and roasted coffee nose with hints of barnyard. Flavors of black cherry, plum, mineral and cocoa powder. Big and dry with substantial tannin. Supple and powerful mouthfeel. Perhaps more time will relax the tannins.88 pts.8/12/11 at Winery Read More
