Alfred Gratien is a Champagne house based in Epernay, France that has been producing since 1864. Nicolas Jaeger is the current cellar master, responsible for ensuring the quality of the Champagnes, selecting the very best Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier grapes to add to the cuvées. The grapes are sourced from the three main regions of Champagne for each varietal: Chardonnay from Côtes des Blancs, Pinot Noir from Montagne de Reims and Pinot Noir from the Marne Valley. Wine is produced without the use of malolactic fermentation to preserve the integrity of the grapes’ specific characters. All of these factor in to make a series of top quality, small production Champagnes in a variety of styles sure to please any palate.

  • A ridiculous number of trigger pullworthies in this new offering, many in their absolute drinking prime. Wish the shop was just down the street from me, rather than the ones that are. But then I'd have to live in NYC.  ;-(I love it when a guy drops 100 cases on a shop, just to 'make some space" in his cellar. Wonder what's going to be filling th... Read More

  • Champagne Hubert Paulet Cuvee Risleus NV

    Snoothrank:

Wood and champagne are a rarity. Apart from the great houses of Bollinger, Krug and Alfred Gratien, a number of grower producers are currently ageing a portion of their base wines in wood. One such producer is Hubert Paulet. His stunning prestige cuvee Risleus is a NV blend of 47% Chardonnay, 33% Pinot Meunier and 20% Pinot Noir, all sourced fro... Read More

  • Alfred Basely Brut France Champagne

    Snoothrank:

A bit floral on the nose with a tinge of citrus and lemony biscuits. Palate is creamy buttery biscuits with crisp acidity and a teeny hint of peach and stone fruit on the finish. Lovely way to start my Friday evening. Read More

  • Howdy, folks.  I have access to very well preserved mid-90s Mondavi reserve cabs. I have been eyeing them for a while and wondered if anyone here has opened them recently and cared to share their thoughts on whether they are worth the $100 or so it would cost to acquire them. Thanks in advance.
