  • Frei Brothers Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve Alexander Valley 2013

    Snoothrank:

Savory red fruit and earthy notes on the nose. This is soft and creamy in the mouth, but bringing in a tannic backbone that supports the fruit through the mid palate with a tart herbal note and rich strawberry, red currant and red cherry notes leading into a nicely smoky, earthy finish with a pleasant minerality and a cocoa powder and vanilla fi... • +1 on Ive showing up!  My luck with the St. Cosme brand hasn't been ... al, you might also consider Alexander Valley Vineyards.  In any case, I'm much preferring the 2013s to the '12s.  But I can't buy a case of any of them, because somehow I can't drink as much Cab as I used to.  I don't eat enough stuff that I think it pair with well.  Sigh.... • Finding myself a little more curious as to what's going on at this price point lately, with neighbors looking to me for advice, and I did hear BLM's call recently as well.So two regions came to mind, not only for reasonable pricing, but for good overall quality potential. The Languedoc in the South of France, and Etna Rosso from the volcanic soi... Read More

  • V V - I am truly appreciating the French wines more and more as time goes buy. ... both from Medlock Ames in Alexander Valley, CA.  We started with a 2008 Cabernet Sauvigion (which I finished today and it was lovely) and then opened the 2011 estate red that I feel still needs some time in the bottle.  Earlier this morning I participated in the... • Frei Brothers Reserve Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2012

    Snoothrank:

A damn fine bottle of wine. Maybe the best I've had from that winery. Plenty of firm, dark berry firm, chewy tannins and a core of cedar, chocolate and spice with good acidty for a puckering mouthwatering finish. Really good for the money. Drink or hold - Paul 91 points Read More
