dark fruit characteristics, blackberries, black plums, and currants, very fruit forward and easy to drink, appeared to be a classic california cabernet
This is my favorite Home Ranch Zinfandel yet, and that is saying something since it is, year in and year out, my favorite of the Seghesio Zins. Silky and refined yet powerful and classically structured, this wine is...
Cracked open a bottle of this wine yesterday. Not sure how long I've had it but it was properly stored. This wine had a beautiful red fruit bouquet with a lush velvet mouthfeel and a smooth lingering finish with red fuit...
classic upfront zinfandel smoothness but then it just falls apart. disjointed with lots of alcohol heat and a sharp bitter acidity. I even get some V8 flavors. at $42 it drinks like an $8 zin. it may need some time in the...
- Tasted at Lee's Wine Experience 11/7/09
Finished bottling the '09 Gewurz tonight (Nov 6th). First orders started going out yesterday. Looks nice , great honey, lychee, spice and pear characteristics with just a pinch of residual sugar.
This year I got the opportunity to participate in a winery employee project. Me and a few of other employees at Loxton Cellars got half a ton of Syrah grapes to make our own wine from. We’ll do all the work and we’ll...
This is my favorite Home Ranch Zinfandel yet, and that is saying something since it is, year in and year out, my favorite of the Seghesio Zins. Silky and refined even in its infancy, this wine is already sensational. All...

Alexander Valley Vineyards Harvest party 2009 is coming up Sept 12th. There will be grape harvesting, a grape stomp competition and a bocce ball tournament. On top of all of that there will be food and wine aplenty all accompanied by live music at our famous picnic grounds with one of the most amazing views of the valley (its the pic for the Alexander Valley group). Price is $75/person and the event runs from 8:00am through the day. Contact the winery (avv@avvwine.com) to reserve your spot. I highly recommend it, it is one of our most fun events of the year!
Had a great time at the Wine Blogger Conference 2009. We poured our Rose, Temptation Zin, Sin Zin and Alexander School Reserve Syrah at the Grand Sonoma Tasting and had some great response.
Dave McIntyre of The Washington Post loves our Rose of Sangiovese
He writes: “An exceptional rosé, one of the best I've ever tasted from the United States, electric with strawberry, watermelon and raspberry flavors, plus peppery spice to add verve to the firm acidity. The nose has a woodsy herbal quality that evokes springtime.”

getting ready for the upcoming party this weekend, if any of you will be out in the Alexander Valley let me know.
fyi to AVV followers: We will be having a 5 cent shipping offer on all wines purchased through the winery and shipped within the United States through the entire month of June. It applies to any amounts purchased, be it 1 bottle or 5 cases (state laws restricting of course; NY...3 cases max) so long as it is ordered through the winery. This can be significant as shipping to the the east coast runs over $30 per case. So enjoy the weekend and think of which wines you would most like to receive. Tell your friends!
starting to rack our '08 Estate Chard...will begin cold and heat stabilizing the wine next week. Probably begin bottling in early June.
The blending went well, everyone hada great time, and the weather coldn't have been better. The final blend ended up being 50% Merlot, 35% Primitivo and 15% Sangiovese...it has a nice complexity on the nose, with a good mix of red and dark fruit but a hint of leather and tobacco as well. It also has a nice lingering finish which is what really made it the winning blend. Look for it early next year.
Our Spring Bash is today...our wine club members will making the blend for next year's Wine Club Reserve. We're doing a Super Tuscan style this year. It will be a blend of Merlot, Primitivo and Sangiovese. Should be nice, and with the weather (~75 degrees) and the food it will make for a rather nice afternoon.
