Alexana Wines was born of Dr. Madaiah Revana’s love of the great wines of Burgundy. In the spring of 2005, Dr. Revana began a search for both the ideal region and an experienced winemaker with the goal of making Pinot Noirs that could rival those from Burgundy. His search ended in Oregon’s Willamette Valley, where he met Lynn Penner-Ash. Lynn’s reputation stretches beyond the borders of Willamette Valley where she has crafted world-class wines for two decades. She has established herself as a premier winemaker of Burgundian-style wines with her label, Penner-Ash. Wine Spectator said she brings “the perfect blend of science, artistry and passion…. Her signature style has brought a new perspective” to winemaking. Lynn was aware of Dr. Revana’s vision and commitment to producing world-class wines. She knew of his Napa Valley winery, Revana Family Vineyard, whose Cabernet’s produced by winemaker Heidi Peterson Barrett have quickly gained status as among the best in Napa. • I was recently in Oregon, for the annual International Pinot Noir Celebration, which is a splendid reason to visit Oregon’s wine country, though you don’t need such motivation to be wowed by what you’ll find in McMinnville and the surrounding areas. While tons of Pinot were in fact tasted and consumed during that long weekend, today I want to ta... Read More

  • Alexana Chardonnay 2012

    Snoothrank:

40% in new FO for ten months Lovely nose shows leesy notes with a light but obvious oak note. Bright acids, gorgeous lively quality in the mouth, opens up on the midpalate with delicacy and freshness, then this turns a bit simple on the finish with green apple and some unripe peach notes, though there is nice acid drive on the moderately long f... • Aldo Conterno Bricco Bussia Vigna Colonnello 1980

    Snoothrank:

A distinctive and gorgeous nose that brings together a bit of pink peppercorn spice with earth, licorice, dried herbs and angelica root fills the glass. Tis is the only wine that shows a bit of extra-ripeness to it with an early suggestion of raisin on the palate. The texture also shows in a armer style with a roundness and softness that the oth... • Poderi Aldo Conterno Barolo Colonnello 1989

    Snoothrank:

A bit of celery and bouillon is obvious on the nose, though there remains some lovely complexity with fine aromas of wood smoke, black tea, and dried rose petals slowly filling the glass along with a nice limestoney edge. Theres not much fruit left here, what remains is rather rough and rustic with lots of black spice and licorice flavors. This ... Read More

  • Poderi Aldo Conterno Nebbiolo Barolo Cicala 1989

    Snoothrank:

Intensely aromatic with deep herbal accents to the core of spicy and dark fruit. There were notes of cocoa and brownies, along with some grilled beefy notes all supporting a core of jammy raspberry fruit that grew with air. Big red fruits greet the palate, which quickly gains focus offering up crisp cranberry and raspberry flavors that gained mi... Read More
