Adelaida's wines begin at the roots, pushing through the rocky limestone soils on the west side of Paso Robles on California's Central Coast. The winery, which originated in 1981, is located 14 miles east of the Pacific Ocean at an elevation of 1,800 feet in the Santa Lucia mountain chain. The winery is a vineyard driven operation that considers itself a foremost proponent of the potential of west side Paso Robles. Adelaida's wild and rugged mountainside vineyards are loaded with limestone and calcareous shale. According to winemaker Jeremy Weintraub, "these characteristics cause the vines to strengthen. This results in added stress on the vines, which lowers the yields but produces more intensely flavored fruit". In keeping with the winery's sustainable philosophy, the vineyards are not tilled, encouraging native grasses, wild sage and rosemary to flourish between the rows. Adelaida produces from its own Estate vineyards and a select group of contracted vineyards on the Read more »

Just got back from a wine-centric trip to Paso Robles and Monterey County. We've been to Paso a number of times and belong to two wine clubs - Tablas Creek and Adelaida. This was our first visit to Carmel/Pacific Grove to check out what they have to offer.I made a few appointments and we dropped in to quite a few more tasting rooms. In Paso, Ta... Read More

I typically shy away from Pinot Noir, preferring more full bodied, dark & dense varieties. But I have had a couple Pinot's that knocked my socks off. In each case, these were made New World style with very concentrated extraction resulting in a fruity palette and dense mouth feel. But I don't recall what wines/vintages were like this.Would love t... Read More

Very nice but not great Paso bordeaux blend from Adelaida. Subtle nose with a hint of mint and shoe polish. Not overly jammy, layered or fruity on the palate but a decent amount of black berries, tar and leather. The tannins are fairly fine grained with a bit of grip, medium acidity and a medium long finish. Read More

Pretty damn good for 100% mourvedre. The nose is a bit perfumey (?) with a touch of smoke. On the tongue is ripe blackberry, black cherry, a touch of gaminess, a bit of tar, fairly fine grained tannins and medium+ acidity. This begs for a big chunk of grilled or smoked red meat. Read More

Very tasty Paso viognier from Adelaida. There's lemon and ripe pear on the nose. On the tongue is more ripe pear, honeysuckle, ripe stone fruits, a hint of minerality, tongue coating texture, a medium finish and medium acidity. Read More

This is an excellent blend of Mourvedre, syrah and grenache noir. Fairly dark in the glass, silky smooth, loads of dark red and black fruit, blackberry, black cherry, ripe plum, ripe blueberry, supple fine grained tannins and a fairly long finish. Not as earthy or funky as I would expect for a GSM. This baby seems to be hitting its stride. Read More
