Across the Lake's first vintage was in 2002, but we did not exhibit until 2003, when it won a bronze award at the Mount Barker Qantas Wine Show. 2004 was an exceptional vintage, winning silver awards at the Perth Royal Show and Mount Barker Show. The 2005 vintage confirmed that the Lake Grace area is suited to wine growing, with our first Gold Award at Western Australia's premier Qantas Wine Show in Mount Barker. The 2007 Shiraz won a Silver Trophy for the 2nd best Shiraz in WA at the Sheraton Wine show. – Description from AlexJelena

  • Viewed them all--good work! Do you know where and when the 'Heroic' description first was used? Will there be any followup, such as on the work in the cellar? Would also be interested in hearing more about the weather in Valais. I've spent a lot of time in Geneva, and during the autumn and winter it seems to be continually overcast (leading almos... • Hi everyone! Let me introduce myself briefly. I come from Valais (the viticole area in the South of Switzerland), but I'm currently studying cinematography in China. I had to make a documentary as a homework assignment so I decided to develop the subject of "Heroic Viticulture" (mountain viticulture) from Valais.I've just uploaded my work online... Read More

  • I believe that folks might already have gleaned that I am somewhat of a Zinfandel fanatic but some of my previous posts. In truth my job has resulted in my drinking less, not more Zin but left to my own devises that would not be the case. Zinfandel remains for me the greatest American wine, both for the sheer joyousness of the wine and the histo... Read More

  • As many of you might know I am half Italian, with family that comes from the province of Trentino in northern Italy. It’s where the seeds for my love for wine were originally planted, and there are plenty of fabulous wines produced there. Though little of it finds it’s way to our shores. That is slowly changing but the truth is there is only so ... Read More

  • I do like Ojai, too, Mark. Plus the town is so quasi-civilized, quasi-rough, quasi-hip&cool, quasi-country and comfy nostalgic for me (family lived there for a couple of generations). Nice stop to taste at the vineyard's tasting room, have tapas later, use the parks (even visit the music festival), go up to the Sespe, drive across the lake up to... Read More

  • Last week I began my summer time look at Zinfandel by focusing on Mendocino and lake counties, two regions that have limited presence in the Zin lovers mind. Today I'm taking a different tact and focusing instead on lodi, a veritable Zin lovers paradise. Why you ask?Well simply put it's a region that not only has a great climate for Zinfandel, wi... • I was wondering what sort of new topic I could start that would pair nicely with my previous posting 'Weekday Wines'; well here it is - Weekend Wines.  Sometimes I just have to stop and take a minute to pat myself on the back for my quick wit but alas, this isn't one of those times.  Anyway, why not talk about wines we enjoy on weekends?  These ... • Let me start by saying I pretty much drink chardonnay from France or California. If it's 90% butter and little else, I'm out. If it tastes like lemon juice and weeds, I'm also out. If California, I'm looking for nicely developed fruit profile without so much oak that it taste like I'm sucking on a tree. I like Peter Michael chardonnay ***a lot**... Read More

  • Hi everyone.  My wife Sandra and I have been into wine for the past few years and that's led to a few trips to Napa Valley and related areas in 2012 and 2013.  We enjoy all wines but reds are our favorites.  We hosted our first wine tasting party last night and it was a fun event - sixteen wine lovers trying different wines in a blind tasting.  ...
