The Rafanelli family is now in its fourth generation of growing grapes and making wine in the Dry Creek Valley. Our winery is small and family operated. Our focus has always been on quality over quantity. At A. Rafanelli Winery, we work hard at maintaining a tradition of producing premium grapes and handcrafting world class wines. We believe that the wines are first made in the vineyard and then achieve their maximum potential through traditional winemaking practices such as open top fermentation and non-filtration. Our quaint and rustic winery sits on a knoll overlooking the scenic Dry Creek Valley and is surrounded by some of our terraced hillside vineyards. The winery consistently specializes in some of the finest Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot. Our wines are not available in any retail outlets, they can only be purchased at the winery. – Description from Marcus

  •  Joel Gott, 2008, California, 14.4% Alc. Clean with a nice oaky streak running through the sweet, and slightly medicinal red fruit and pomegranate inflected nose. This has a gentle vegetal note that works well as a counterpoint to the balanced fruit and oak notes. On the palate this is smooth and balanced with fresh, complex flavors of red berry... Read More

  • While I remain enamored with the great wines of California’s past, I am on the fence in regards to what can be called their more modern style first embraced in the very early 1980s. The wines from the 1960s and 1970s were often made by winemakers operating in the field, basing their actions on the accumulated wisdom of the generations that had c... Read More

  • A. Rafanelli Dry Creek Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 1991

    Snoothrank:

This smells chunky and full with a lovely sweetness to the fruit that gains floral accents and hints of mint, though the wood aromas do become more assertive as it sits in the glass. On the palate this begins as dark and earthy but quickly blossoms to reveal a core of rich, chunky, dark cherry and blackberry fruit. There is good acid here and a... Read More

  • A. Rafanelli Zinfandel Dry Creek Valley 2005

    Snoothrank:

For the price you simply can't beat the Rafanelli product line. Consistently crowd pleasers. This wine is a lovely Zin, not following in the footsteps of other Zin masters by over maturing/over extracting the fruit. Read More

  • The subject says it all. My wife, her parents and myself will be staying in Napa for a week starting Sunday. My Father in Law is in to that jammy, over-extracted style of zin. His favorite as of yet is Rombauer, but I thought I'd hop on here and see if anyone could point me in the direction of some others that have similar characteristics. U... Read More
