A.P.VIN is an artisanal California Pinot Noir producer cultivating world class vineyards for small batch, handcrafted wines. Grapes are allowed to ripen to physiological ripeness to ensure peak flavors and structure. After harvest the grapes are 100% de-stemmed and crushed. Once fermentation commences the wine is gently pressed and placed into a variety of new and old French oak barrels including Rémond and Seguin Moreau barrels from various forests. With minimal intervention and eleven months of aging, the grapes are allowed to show their true colors and flavors in the final wine. – Description from mriskic

  • In this case, a '79 Mondavi Chardonnay Reserve stole the show. Just the fact that it was still upright, despite passive cellaring (another from a previously discussed estate sale my neighbor scored on) was enough to write about. However, this surprisingly gave some real, almost sublime pleasure, despite being on the precipice of oxidation. It dr... Read More

  • We're doing a long weekend in Russian River and Napa this weekend. Flew into San Francisco yesterday with no problems. Friend picked us up at the airport, definitely beats the heck out of fighting the huge crowd at the rental car counters. Why don't they have a contiguous highway from the airport to hwy 101.So what's the first thing to do in win... Read More

  • Some Bordeauxish options:La Parde de Haut-Bailly is about $20 in France, less in Switzerland (!), more in the States. 2nd wine of the Chateau, which has improved quite a bit in recent years.Chateux Teyssier (St. Emilion), Olivier (Pessac-Leognan) and Potensac (Medoc) can still be found under $30, if not $20 anymore. • I know it is, that's why I said 'more' in the 2nd paragraph.  And my bad in just skimming and unthinkingly assuming your Jura red was just another muscadet maker I didn't know. LOL. In my defense it's 5am over here on Monday morning and I haven't had any coffee yet.   BTW, whose did you purchase? I've had very little red from Jura. Mostly white ... Read More

  • Oh dear, more good French wines well under $20, even after import across the Atlantic. I'm liking Chambers Street more and more, the more I visit their offerings. These guys seem to understand wine in ways that I do and like. In their essay below there's a link to a current Asimov article on Muscadet. It's also well worth jumping to and reading.... Read More

  • A ridiculous number of trigger pullworthies in this new offering, many in their absolute drinking prime. Wish the shop was just down the street from me, rather than the ones that are. But then I'd have to live in NYC.  ;-(I love it when a guy drops 100 cases on a shop, just to 'make some space" in his cellar. Wonder what's going to be filling th... Read More

  • Sorry, haven't been on here for a couple days so I thought it was time to catch up. Woke up Saturday morning and found ourselves in Marseilles where we're starting our next great wine adventure. First day was spent trying to get rid of the jet lag cobwebs so we took it easy, checked out Aix-en-Provence and then headed to the villa in St. Remy. D...
