33 Vines is a boutique vineyard and winery located within the boundaries of Ontario’s newest wine region – Prince Edward County. Our site is on historic Highway #33, aka, The Loyalist Parkway, 10 kms east of the Glenora Ferry which connects the Counties of Lennox & Addington and Prince Edward. 33 Vines is producing premium red and white wines from our 10 acres of vinifera grapevines, including: Chardonnay, Riesling, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot. Our wines show wonderful characteristics of our cool climate location, from the limestone and clay based loamy soils to the fresh water inlet breezes from Lake Ontario. Fresh fruit, crisp acidity, minerality and delicate flavours are all aspects of our wine that we are extremely proud. – Description from AlexJelena

  • Oh dear, more good French wines well under $20, even after import across the Atlantic. I'm liking Chambers Street more and more, the more I visit their offerings. These guys seem to understand wine in ways that I do and like. In their essay below there's a link to a current Asimov article on Muscadet. It's also well worth jumping to and reading.... Read More

    Snoothrank:

Tasting NotesA grand melding of 2011 vinifera grapes mix and mingle creating an exotic lineup. Its intriguing on the palate with twists and turns of recognition. Brilliant garnet color, notes of red cherry, sweet spice and pepper with smooth, silky tannins.Vineyard NotesGROWING CONDITIONS: The Finger Lakes region dealt with its most difficult gr... Read More

  • California, the land of sunshine, free spirits, and big wines. Right? Yes, of course, all that is true but today we are seeing that free spirited attitude change the paradigm for wine production. Some might say that we are witnessing a return to a different style of wine. Fresher, lower in alcohol and having more in common with wines produced se... Read More

  • Just finished tasting Ballabourneen The Stuart 2013 Chardonnay (Australian Wine Selectors Hunter Valley Series January 2014 dozen), bottled under screwcap. Supposed to have a "round and subtle biscuity finish" Well the bottle I tasted was way to subtle for me I'm afraid! I think it is due to last week's tasting of the Tapanappa  2008 Tiers Picca... • Perhaps we could use a place to share recent purchases...Here are some '12 Burlotto Langhe Nebbiolo, which came highly recommended from a trusted friend who just got back from a month in Italy. I'm not seeing many available in the States quite yet, but was happy to find these locally. Read More

  • Yesterday I presented a brief overview of Washington state to help put what follows in context. I spent a week traveling the region recently and was franklyunsure of how these articles would play out. I didn’t know exactly what to expect and was prepared to write apair of articles on Washington Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, as well as Syrah, bu... Read More

  • I’ve already written up the Grenache based wines I tasted during my time in Santa Barbara, they can be found here: Grenache - The Next Pinot Noir?  so today I am focusing on most of the remaining wines that I tasted while in the region. I’ll save the few Pinots I Tasted for a Pinot round-up, which might surprise some folks. You see I went to San... Read More

  • So I got back and was swamped.  Here's my spin:  I wouldn't say that Zin is a wine that improves greatly with the kind of age we are talking about here, but what was shocking was that not a single wine had gone over.  My wine of the night was the '73 Ridge:  We opened it and it was bubbling around the cork, had lots of signs of past seepage, and... •  Wow, we had a great time last night. Hopefully Foxall will have a chance to put his spin on things. I didn't take any notes, just 2 pictures but I lined up some of the dead soldiers this morning. 15 people, over 30 different wines and not a single dud except for a sweet/syrupy/candied 2001 Rosenblum Monte Rosso Zinfandel. But enough for the bad... Read More

  • Elsewhere you can read about the offline I attended with OT and GdP and a bunch of winemakers, winelovers, and the like.  But on the way there, I think I solved a major problem with California wine; over conversation with GdP and an assistant winemaker from Napa, my belief was confirmed.I read in an obituary of Aldo Conterno that he had come to ...
