Zum Martin Sepp Zweigelt 2014

Winemaker's Notes:

"'Innovation, stubbornness and a bit of madness.' This, according to Michael Martin, the young wine making dynamo of Weingut Martinshof, is the secret to his success. The trend to buck conservative thought was started even by his great grandfather, who insisted on growing Burgundian grapes in the 13ha of vineyards many years before they were popular in Austria. The Martin family has owned and operated the Heuriger "Zum Martin Sepp" for generations and it still remains one of the most popular wine taverns of Vienna's Grinzing district. As Michael took over the winemaking in the late '80s, it was his desire to bring the Martinshof name back from quantity to quality. "Food friendly" is the first thought that comes to mind when sipping any of the Martinshof wines; whether light and elegant or rich and structured, all of Michael's wines scream for food." - Distributor

“Innovation, stubbornness and a little bit of madness” - So self describes himself Michael Martin, the young wine making dynamo of Weingut Martinshof. The trend to buck conservative thought was started even by his great grandfather, who insisted on growing Burgundian varietals, many years before they were popular in Austria. After his death however, his cherished Pinot Blanc was pulled up in favor of higher yielding varieties. The Martin family has owned and operated the heuriger "Zum Martin Sepp" (www.zummartinsepp.at) for generations, and it still remains one of the most prominent and popular of Vienna’s Grinzing district. As Michael took over the winemaking in the late 80’s, it was his desire to bring the Martinshof brand back from quantity to quality. Now alongside the classic, spicy Weinviertel DAC Gruener Veltliner and charming Zweigelts, Michael Martin is producing Pinot Noir and Pinot Blancs with structure and finesse. ‘Food friendly’ is the first words that generally come to mind when sipping any of the Martinshof wines. Whether light and elegant, or rich and structured, all of Michael’s wines scream for food. This is the very quality that brought them first into the Darcy and Huber Selections portfolio. Read less
