Zonin Montepulciano Montepulciano d'Abruzzo 2008
I bought this wine for $7.95 from Empire Wine primarily because of the New York Times review rating it a “best buy.” Oft times my opinion diverges from that of The Times. Not in this instance. This is an absolutely wonderful wine! Subtle and balanced this offering lacks significant depth, but it is still an unbelievable bargain. The nose is initially beset by floral and herbal aromas before it slides across the palate with the tart taste of cherries and a surprising minerality. The finish is smooth (if not particularly long) and the price/quality ratio outstanding! Stock up on this one! 90.
Dark ruby red color. Aromas of spiced cherry and just a touch of coffee. This is a simple wine, but simple in all the right ways. The montepulciano grape is juicy and alive, with cherry, red apple and spice, and a sufficiently restrained amount of tannin. The wine glides across the palette with delibrate precision towards the moderately-long, but satisfying finish. This is a FOOD-FRIENDLY wine- anything from pasta to pork, steak, game will pair well. I purchased a 750 ml bottle of this vintage for $7, but I've read that there are MAGNUM bottles starting at $11. One of the best wine values I have ever found.

This is a flagship red and a real crowd pleaser: round and plumy, with ample body, good balance, and a soft finish, it is the vino-qua-non for red-sauced pastas, pizza, and bar-b-que.
Soft and simple, showing nice berry and spice aromas and flavors. Drinkable now.
The favorite of many who have discovered this delicious grape grown in Abruzzi. Smooth, round, fruity and spicy, it's as easy to match with pasta as it is with beef. Try it instead of Valpolicella or Chianti the next time you need a tasty weekday red.
Bright ruby garnet cast. Moderately light-bodied. Low acidity. Subtly extracted. Dried herbs, minerals. Aromatically reserved, with a simple, supple palate feel. Highly quaffable, straightforward style.
