It is here that the roots of this complex company lie: a company that now consists of 11 wine estates with more than 1,800 hectares (3,705 acres) of vineyards located in Italy’s most favorable terroirs. At the center of the Zonin universe is the land, the soils of the estates-which yield some of the greatest Italian wines-and particularly those at Gambellara, where this family of small farmer has steadily handed down, from one generation to the next, a sense of the vine’s life and its beauty. This commitment has brought the family to the very highest level of the Italian wine sector. It has been a journey between heaven and earth through a world of infinite sensations. And at the center there is always the land in which seven generations of the Zonin family have sunk deep roots. Read less
Suggested Recipe Pairing presented by
Layered Rice Pudding

RiceSelect's fragrant Jasmati® is blended with eggs, milk and fall's favorite spices, cinnamon and nutmeg, to create a delicious rice pudding, which is layered on top of fluffy cream cheese and abuttery pecan crust. Pairs well with a bold, tawny port with flavors of dried fruits, nuts, and spices.

AUD$55 from Dan Murphy’s. For the uninitiated, Amarone is a rich Italian style of wine requiring the partial drying of the harvested grapes on straw mats, appassimento, for about 120 days. Fermentation is long and slow, lasting from four to six weeks. The wine then matures in 30hectoliter Slavonian oak barrels for two years, and for a further six months in bottle before being released onto the market. The additional effort in the production of this wine accounts for the higher prices. For this Zonin Amarone, it is a blend of 60% Corvina, 35% Rondinella and 5% Molinara. Incidentally, while the 2008 is classified as DOC, this designation has been promoted to DOCG as of December 2009. Solid, deep ruby colour with a purple-garnet rim. Intense scent of ripe plums, prunes, black cherry compote and wet espresso grains. This is a rich, concentrated, full-bodied wine. The acidity leaves a fleshy citrus-like sensation, more like slurping on a dessert sauce of reduced berries. 14.5% alc. Firm grippy tannins morph into a chewy, plump mouthfeel. Lovely flavours of black plums, black cherry jam, nutmeg and sweet peppercorns. Overall, an elegant and enjoyable Amarone. Drink now – 2020.
