The Seghesio Family Vineyards have a rich history, dating back to 1895 when Edoardo Seghesio and his wife Angela purchased their home in Alexander Valley, part of Sonoma County. They didn’t buy the land for the house - they bought it for the 56 acres that were ideal vineyard land. That year, the land’s first grapes were planted - Zinfandel. In 1902, Seghesio Winery was founded, but the Seghesios didn’t stop there. In 1910 they acquired even more land, in the region known as Chianti, California. On that land, they planed Sangiovese, Canielao Nero, Trebbiano and Malvasia, making the it the oldest planting of Sangiovese in North America. Six months before Prohibition, Seghesio took a gamble and made a significant purchase - a 4,000,000 gallon capacity winery with 1,100 acres of vineyards from his former employer, Italian Swiss Colony. Unfortunately, Prohibition hit harder than Seghesio expected, and he was forced to completely sell off his shares in the winery by 1933. In 1983, the company changed drastically, when Ted and Peter Seghesio decided to shift the winery’s focus to high-quality production and much smaller lots, producing wine under the Seghesio label for the first time. Ted became the both the winemaker and the deliverer of wine, and with the help of Peter, a successful distribution network was formed. After tending to over 400 acres of vineyards across many regions, Seghesio Family Vineyards has become a large, successful vineyard with fourth generation winemakers. Read less

Great value for the price. Smooth and silky on the palate compared to similar priced Zinfandels. Lovely raspberry flavor with hints of plum and cherry. Subtle pepper and spices. Medium tannins and balanced acidity.

Deftly balanced, with ripe, rich, earthy wild berry, blackberry, anise and cedar flavors enlivened by firm acidity and supported by chewy tannins. Finishes with a long, complex aftertaste. Drink now through 2007.

The 2008 Zinfandel Sonoma offers up copious amounts of blue, red, and black fruits as well as excellent purity, medium to full body, a supple texture, and enough acidity to provide vibrancy. It is a pure, elegant, substantial Zinfandel to drink over the next 3ndash;4 years.

The Seghesio family has been making wine for a century in northern Sonoma County and farms more than 400 acres of Zinfandel in Alexander and Dry Creek valleys. they make a range of vineyard-designated Zinfandels, such as Home Ranch and Cortina, and a bottling from the oldest vines. But for this Sonoma County 2007, winemaker Ted Seghesio tapped his diverse grape sources for a more widely available, well-priced wine. Aged 11 months in 75 percent American oak, it's a complex, seductive, pepper-and berry-laced Zinfandel with a supple texture and a spicy finish.

Briary and zesty, with dried sage and wild berry aromas and tightly would cracked pepper, dried cherry and licorice flavors that finish with slightly rustic tannins. Best from 2011 through 2014.

This is like a gangly teenager, young and a bit inelegant but charming. Shows robust black cherry and spice aromas and blackberry jam and licorice flavors. The tannins firm up the finish. Drink now through 2012.

This seductive and vigorous zinfandel offers smoky black cherry and blueberry aromas that lead to youthful wild berry, sage and cracked pepper flavors, with a lingering finish and zesty tannins. Drink now through 2012.
