Zind-Humbrecht Pinot Gris Alsace Grand Cru Aoc Rangen de Thann Clos St. Urbain 2004

Winemaker's Notes:

92 points Wine Spectator: Intense, with a smoky, meaty character and grapefruit peel, dried quince and spice flavors. Big, dry and rangy, with some tannins adding to the structure. The finish picks up a salty, mineral element. Plenty of personality, but not for everyone. Drink now - 2012. 760 cases made. (10/15/06) Organic/biodynamic (not certified).

During the bloom, trimming consists in shortening the end of the branches leaving just the right quantity of good quality leafs that the young vine needs. During ripening, the stripping to improve the exposure of the grapes to the sun and thinning out the grapes in excess must be done with precision in order to obtain a harvest of great quality. orking the ground consists of several heavy duty work. Hilling up the vine, ploughing down and plowing between the rows of vine are accomplished each year. Naturally, Pierre-Paul Humbrecht is using the latest agricultural technologies to ease the task while remaining in harmony with nature, thus our advance towards biological agriculture or rather the search of our origins towards the Earth...
