Zind-Humbrecht Pinot Blanc Blend Alsace Aoc Pinot d'Alsace 2007

Winemaker's Notes:

The Auxerrois and Pinot Blanc take a lot of aromatics from the fermentation and after from long lees contact. The 2007 shows some minerality on the nose, quickly underlined by more toasty, bread crust, nutty flavours, and after some air contact, opens up to more fruity aromas. The structure is quite powerful and this wine shows a long finish. A very healthy crop means also a stricter structure. It is a wonderful food wine, bone dry, but shows a nice roundness.

The annual cycle of work, parallel with cycle of nature, consists of a number of interventions, comprising biological treatments against the diseases and others aiming at improving the quality. mong the latter, the pruning is particularly decisive. Too severe, it prevents the harmonious development of the vine, insufficient, the vine will overproduce unripen grapes. A this moment, the presence of Paul’s grandson Pierre-Paul Humbrecht, is of utmost importance to the vineyard, to prune correctly and at the right time. Given unfavourable climatic conditions, the harvest may suffer but when the seasons flow normally the right pruning will be rewarded by a juice of very high quality. hen the vine has had its budburst, the disbudding (selection of branches) and desuckering (supression of the growths resulting from sucker from the trunk), are made manually to avoid any harmful effect to the vine. During the bloom, trimming consists in shortening the end of the branches leaving just the right quantity of good quality leafs that the young vine needs. During ripening, the stripping to improve the exposure of the grapes to the sun and thinning out the grapes in excess must be done with precision in order to obtain a harvest of great quality. orking the ground consists of several heavy duty work. Hilling up the vine, ploughing down and plowing between the rows of vine are accomplished each year. Naturally, Pierre-Paul Humbrecht is using the latest agricultural technologies to ease the task while remaining in harmony with nature, thus our advance towards biological agriculture or rather the search of our origins towards the Earth... Yet another interesting Alsace with interesting integration between fruit and mineral, as if a concentrated sachet of both were placed in the center of the tongue. Lovely balanced nose of restrained but firm fruit (lychee and some citrus e.g. light tangerine) and some mineral. In the mouth pear and orange and nuts followed by a lingering finish of a "tannic" nutty grain taste. Nice wine without much "petrol" or poultry fat tastes. Didn't pick up peach but others say it's there.

It's a little tart - perhaps too much - but it's full-bodied, with good concentration/definition and a nice long finish with some earthy-nutty accents. by the way, tho it includes pinot blanc, the pinot auxwerrois predominates (I believe the mix is 30%/70%; pb/pa).

Dried apple and peach notes accent a hint of lanolin and toast. The acidity stands out a bit now, so give this time or try with food. Ends with a lingering floral note. Drink now through 2012.

Firm acidity backs subtle notes of white peach, lemon zest, brine and smoke in this delicate, well-meshed white, with a lacy texture. An excellent summer sipper. Drink now through 2011.

Full medium gold. Exotic aromas and flavors of musky apricot, orange and medicinal herbs; one senses the wine's firm acidity on the nose. Then spicy, intense and surprisingly dry in the mouth, with a creamy texture leavened by some unabsorbed CO2. This chewy, substantial pinot blanc needs food.

The smell of the sea winds through this full-bodied Pinot Blanc. Pretty peach, apricot, clementine and honeysuckle notes flesh it out, while zesty acidity provides a firm framework. Delicious on its own, but would pair well with seafood. Drink now through 2014.
