User Reviews for Zind-Humbrecht Pinot Blanc Blend Alsace Aoc Pinot d'Alsace
Add your reviewYet another interesting Alsace with interesting integration between fruit and mineral, as if a concentrated sachet of both were placed in the center of the tongue. Lovely balanced nose of restrained but firm fruit (lychee and some citrus e.g. light tangerine) and some mineral. In the mouth pear and orange and nuts followed by a lingering finish of a "tannic" nutty grain taste. Nice wine without much "petrol" or poultry fat tastes. Didn't pick up peach but others say it's there.

Full medium gold. Exotic aromas and flavors of musky apricot, orange and medicinal herbs; one senses the wine's firm acidity on the nose. Then spicy, intense and surprisingly dry in the mouth, with a creamy texture leavened by some unabsorbed CO2. This chewy, substantial pinot blanc needs food.
The smell of the sea winds through this full-bodied Pinot Blanc. Pretty peach, apricot, clementine and honeysuckle notes flesh it out, while zesty acidity provides a firm framework. Delicious on its own, but would pair well with seafood. Drink now through 2014.
Dried apple and peach notes accent a hint of lanolin and toast. The acidity stands out a bit now, so give this time or try with food. Ends with a lingering floral note. Drink now through 2012.
Winemaker's Notes:
The Auxerrois and Pinot Blanc take a lot of aromatics from the fermentation and after from long lees contact. The 2007 shows some minerality on the nose, quickly underlined by more toasty, bread crust, nutty flavours, and after some air contact, opens up to more fruity aromas. The structure is quite powerful and this wine shows a long finish. A very healthy crop means also a stricter structure. It is a wonderful food wine, bone dry, but shows a nice roundness.
