- Dark and tightly wound on the nose with hints of bitter chocolate, mocha, smoky herbs, wild plums, wild blueberries and sandlewood. - Slick on entry with super fine tannins and a lovely wild blueberry note, nice integrated acidity, fairly rich with some drying tannins but very well proportioned. Lovely red currant and wild berry fruits on the mid-palate lead to a fresh finish with balanced notes of mineral earth, lightly toasted wood and wild plums. A lovely match for a simple roast venison dish. 91pts

Zenato Ripassa Valpolicella Superior 2007- Color- blackened amethyst. Nose-a nose of juicy raisin soft cheese, sandalwood, and slightly humid. Taste- Good strong yet balanced oak creates a slightly salty impression, but mixes well with a presence of blackberries and raisins. Powerful long finish with heavy and sustaining mouth feel. The finish brings in woody spices and hints of pepper among a vegetative undertone. My Score: 93

Well balanced fruity wine with long and pleasant after taste. Can be stored for some years, but it is unlikely it will become a much better wine with more time. Be careful, can easily be consumed in large quantities. Good match with it self, or with red meat or game dishes.

Deep garnet red in color with bright ruby edges. Aroma's of dried black fruits, blueberries, dark chocolate, sandalwood, and smoke. Mouth feel is full bodied, lush, velvety, with a nice tannin structure. Flavors bursting with ripe blackberries, dried dark fruits, plum, spices, and a hint of earthiness. Long full finish which displays some red fruits, toasty oak, & light herbal notes. Rich & balanced. Perfect pairing for a beef roast, pasta with a tomato meat sauce, and medium to strong cheeses. WineSplash Rating - 93 Points! If you have a 2007 vintage, I would drink it by 2015. WineSplashing!!

Ripe blackberry and blueberry, nicely balanced with tannins and a smooth finish. Was shockingly good with a spiced grilled salmon and asparagus linguini and made applewood cheddar hum.

93 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate"Deep ruby-red in color with a complex nose of dried fruit and licorice, Ripassa represents one of the most important milestones in Zenatos history. The wine offers rich aromas of blackberry jam, currant, chocolate, coffee and tar that linger on the palate and are sustained by a round and structured body. Recommended with grilled meat dishes, Ripassa is excellent with rabbit casserole. A blend of 80% Corvina, 10% Rondinella, and 10% Sangiovese. As soon as the dried grapes for the Amarone are fermented, selected batches of Valpolicella wine are "re-passed" over the Amarones lees, thus starting a second fermentation that slightly increases the alcohol content and gives the wine deeper color, increased extract, and more complex aromas. Ripassa is refined in tank for six months and then aged in small oak barrels for 18-24 months

The estate's 2007 Valpolicella Classico Superiore is a joyous red bursting with perfumed red fruit and sweet spices. This fresh, vibrant Valpolicella is best enjoyed on the young side. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2011. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate. A Proprietary Blend wine from Veneto in Italy. 2007 Zenato Valpolicella Superiore Ripassa 750ml

The wine is passed through the pomace of the Amarone, which lends depth, concentration and complexity. It is deep ruby red in color, with a complex nose showing some dried fruit. Excellent body and texture on the palate with a lingering finish. Recommended with grilled meat dishes. Excellent with rabbit.

The bigger-styled 1999 Valpolicella Classico Ripasso was made by passing Valpolicella must over the Amaronersquo;s pressings, or pomace. This enriches the wine, and provides more body, color, and meatiness. The 1999 Ripasso exhibits a deep ruby/purple color, and a Rhocirc;ne Valley-like nose of pepper, earth, black fruits, and roasted meats. Medium to full-bodied, with super fruit intensity, fine purity, a soft underbelly, and velvety tannin, it will drink well for 7ndash;8 years.

Winemaker's Notes:

Zenato gives the name “Ripassa” to this wine, which shares many of the characteristics of our Amarone. As soon as the fermentation is completed of the dried grapes for the Amarone, selected lots of Valpolicella are then “re-passed” on the Amarone pomace, thus initiating a second fermentation which increases slightly the alcoholic content and gives the wine deeper colour, increased extract, and more complex aromas. After 6 months’ bottle-ageing, the result is a rounded, velvet-textured wine with rich, complex aromas of berries and an impressively lengthy finish that seems to linger forever. Ripassa represents one of the most important milestones in Zenato’s winemaking evolution.

The nose offers supple fragrances of almonds and violets. Crisp and dry in the mouth, well structured, with a lovely, velvety texture.
