Zenato Amarone Classico 2014

Winemaker's Notes:

Ruby red in color, this Amarone Riserva offers dense and smokey aromas of dark cherries, raisins, chocolate, and anise, framed by fruity tannins and a spicy finish. With the level of complexity and balance that this wine shows, it will evolve beautifully for 10+ years.

Three years in botte then one in bottle Fine bitter black nose, soil driven with old wood framing items, lots of medicinal licorice, a little orange peel, and almost minty character. Big on entry with lots of dry extract, you can feel this wine, though there are great acids and lovely soft supporting tannins supporting the masses of dark fruit that shows melted licorice and chocolate streaks to it. Laced with bitter cherry skins and a little mineral notes on the finish. finely textured if a bit chewy, this holds its alcohol very well. 90pts

Considered one of the best producers in the Veneto region, every vintage Zenato Amarone is a top wine. This 2009 got 90+ scores across the the board. The Wine Advocate scored it 93 points saying "The 2009 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico is a richly-layered wine with opulent tones of plum cake, cinnamon snap, jammy fruit and dark raisin. There’s a tight and focused nature to this wine that underlines its fine quality and aging potential. The extraction is there, and so are the tannins and acidic components. Spicy tobacco and leather last long in the mouth. The wine is aged 36 months in large oak casks."
