What to Expect

Chardonnay is America's most popular grape and with good reason. Made in styles that range from steely, mineral laced wines with crisp green apple fruit to wines that are buttery, rich, and laden with tropical fruits, there is a Chardonnay that will appeal to every palate. Chardonnay is most closely associated with France's Burgundy region and California's Northern valleys though it has proven successful around the globe.

Winemakers Notes

Our 2000 California Chardonnay is packed with forward, ripe aromas of pineapple, apricot and lime with subtle floral notes reminiscent of orange blossom. On the palate, the lush pineapple and citrus flavors integrate beautifully with hints of vanilla, coconut, and toasted nuts. A long, cool fermentation in toasted American oak barrels, and no malo-lactic fermentation, preserve the wonderful, complex fruit and natural acidity that gives this wine its richness and delicate balance. This wine is a true testament to ZD's consistent and unique style.

Reviews

The 1999 Chardonnay starts off with a delectable aroma of ripe melon and citrus, with hints of roasted grain and toasty oak. The luscious, mouth-coating flavor has a core of grapefruit, pineapple and apricot. All of these flavors lead to the aftertaste, which is rich, full-flavored and well balanced, with lingering nuances of honeyed lemon and spicy oak that leaves your mouth literally watering for more.
