What to Expect

Chardonnay is America's most popular grape and with good reason. Made in styles that range from steely, mineral laced wines with crisp green apple fruit to wines that are buttery, rich, and laden with tropical fruits, there is a Chardonnay that will appeal to every palate. Chardonnay is most closely associated with France's Burgundy region and California's Northern valleys though it has proven successful around the globe.

Winemakers Notes

2007 was an exceptional vintage for Chardonnay. A long, cool growing season allowed for extended hang times with an excellent balance of flavors and natural acidity. The fruit was harvested at optimal maturity from several vineyards in California’s coolest growing regions – Napa and Sonoma Carneros, Monterey and Santa Barbara counties. A long, cold fermentation in 100% American oak barrels and no malo-lactic fermentation define ZD’s signature winemaking style. Tropical fruits, fantastic nose and density. Really coats the mouth with flavor, without having the overpowering finish. A unique chardonnay that I find very appealing, and also to many people who really don't care for chardonnay.

"Our 2002 California Chardonnay is packed with forward, ripe aromas of pineapple, apricot and lime with subtle floral notes reminiscent of orange blossom. On the palate, the lush pineapple and citrus flavors integrate beautifully with hints of vanilla, coconut, and toasted nuts.
